ΣAE At Indiana University Opens Doors To New $4.5 Million House
TFM reader “dunkleman” sent us the below request yesterday via wall post submission after seeing our coverage of Theta Chi’s new 4.3 million dollar crib at the University of Florida.

It’s not exactly the kind of headliner that scrolls across the bottom of a TV screen. This one’s on you, man. Better late than never, though. Right, dunk?
Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s new house on Jordan Avenue will house 68 members of the 100+ member chapter, with rooms filling up based on seniority and chapter involvement. The design of this $4.5 million house has some historical significance.
The new house is modeled after the Jordan Crest Gables, which was the SAE house at IU until November 1969 when it caught fire, Smith said. Afterward, the chapter moved to someone else’s old house, but the men never had the same connection to it, Somers said.
In 2006, the chapter’s second house caught fire and was ultimately demolished.Somers said the new house will have a full fire sprinkler system, fire rated doors and a centrally monitored fire alarm system.
SAE Nationals did a survey of alumni from the 50s to 90s of what they wanted the new house to look like. They then hired an architect from Atlanta to draw architectural renderings based on old photos.
The exterior of the house doesn’t have the traditional fraternity house appearance that many of us appreciate, but it’s sharp-looking nonetheless. Big, too. The house features 26 single rooms, 18 double rooms, 2 triple rooms, 12 televisions (with one being an absurd 80 inches), 11 member bathrooms, and 4 guest bathrooms.

12 years ago at 12:19 pmI like how you call it “massive” on twitter when it’s definitely one of the smallest houses at IU (physical house and number of live-ins ). 68 is definitely on the lower end of live-ins at IU and when they were laying the foundation, it looked nowhere near as big as most of IUs other houses.
Not trying to shit on SAE but more of a testament to IU’s underrated Greek system.

12 years ago at 7:29 pmIf the house isn’t over 8 million, it doesn’t deserve to be posted. There are plenty of 3-5 million dollar fraternity houses that exist and plenty more being built, only a few above the 8 mil range.
