3,000 People Rioted On Halloween And Destroyed Everything In Sight At East Carolina University
Around midnight on Halloween, police responded to a complaint of an unconscious man at the Riverwalk Townhomes, which are close to East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. What they encountered when they got there was an enormous, destructive, vicious riot, with about 3,000 students taking part.
All reports point to a shit ton of alcohol mixed with Halloween festivities as culprits behind the wild scene, which found officers being pelted with debris upon responding. They eventually resorted to using tear gas and flash bangs in attempts to disperse the raucous crowd.
How wild did it get? Well, wild enough to have hundreds surrounding a campus transit bus chanting, “Flip that bus!” while others stood atop it and onlookers below shattered some of the windows.
There was also this guy–it’s unclear if his Halloween costume was a monkey or not–scaling a telephone pole.
Apparently that’s the cool thing to do when you riot, as it appears several others showcased their climbing skills as the riot raged on. This compilation of several cell phone videos, snapchats, and Instagram posts prove the scene was nothing less than chaotic.
And what did it look like the day after? As you probably expect: pure carnage.
It took two and a half hours to get the crowd to disperse. Jesus Christ.
Word on the street is that the bus in question is no longer functioning, and several were arrested as a result of their actions.
I’m all for rioting if there’s a justifiable cause, but this just seems like an extreme way to celebrate Halloween. The ECU students could have at least saved up their rage for when the number 21-ranked Pirates lost on the road to an unranked Temple team the following day. Five fumbles in a single game? Now that’s something to riot about..

I’d riot too if I lost to Temple.
10 years ago at 6:27 pmI was there visiting a friend, and this wasnt even cool or fun, it was just ridiculous. It was just a bunch of geeds wreaking havoc. Ecu is the only college in NC that has drunk buses and they fucking ruined their own bus. Way over hyped and fucking stupid.
10 years ago at 8:38 pmLuckily for ECU, it didn’t have a reputation capable of being destroyed.
10 years ago at 10:00 pmECU may be a shithole, but to be fair, those flunkies rage like no other. Everyone should experience an ECU Halloween before they graduate.
10 years ago at 8:44 amYea go to ECU if you wanna hang with a bunch of geeds who constantly talk about “how much we rage bro”
10 years ago at 4:40 pmECU classes are so easy that U*NC student athletes could pass them.
10 years ago at 11:03 amWoah woah woah lets not get crazy!
10 years ago at 2:57 pmOkay guys. I go to ECU, but wasn’t at the riot. But from what I know, about 70% of the people at the riot were 1 of 3 things: from out of town (Clemson/UNCC/UNC/NCState/USC/UNCG/UNCW/UNCP), not involved in Greek life, or in the military, due to the fact that Fayetteville and Fort Bragg is an hour or so away and soldiers love to get rowdy because… well they’re soldiers and that’s what soldiers do. In ECU students defense however, about 22,000 students attend there as undergrads. the riot was about 3000, I’d say only about one third (very roughly) of the rioting crowd was students that actually attend ECU. I agree that the riot was stupid, excessive, and bad publicity. But let’s all remain gentlemen here and realize that every University, whether Harvard or UNC or Southern Cal, we all have our own dumb asses. There is no need to make fake accounts on tfm to shit on people, and I ask that some of you just try to realize that although the riot was massively stupid, it does not reflect or represent the majority of the student body. In other words, the majority of ECU students including myself believe that the “riot” at Riverwalk was ridiculous and bad press.
10 years ago at 7:47 pmI go to ECU as well, and this statement is 100% true. The most destructive and belligerent people that were in our town over Halloweekend weren’t even students at ECU. Just a bunch of kids who can’t hang with the Pirates.
