5 Reasons To Attend Ohio State University

Ohio State

Ohio State University is home to the Buckeyes, legendary traditions, and some good looking girls. Many choose to attend the school — it’s home to the second largest enrollment in the country — and for good reason. In fact, here are five of the reasons people are choosing to attend Ohio State.

Athletics

What kind of column would this be if I didn’t include the one thing that seems to matter for bragging rights when it comes to universities: sports. If you’re looking to hold something over your friend’s head for the rest of his life, then Ohio State is going to give you that opportunity. The Buckeyes have a long-standing winning tradition, and don’t expect it to go away anytime soon. Urban Meyer has something cooking up there and even Thad Matta can have the basketball team compete. Ohio State is the premier athletic program in the Big 10, and it’s almost not even close.

Greek Life

Ohio State has thirty-six IFC chapters. Thirty-six! Granted, I didn’t recognize half the names on the university’s website, but that’s still a lot. Add that to the seventeen sororities on campus and you have a big Greek life network. In fact, Greek life accounts for 12 percent of the whole student population at Ohio State. Whether it’s the parties, the tailgates, or the sorority girls (OSU Kappa was a four seed a few years ago when it came to hottest sororities in the nation), Ohio State boasts a solid Greek life that can compete with the rest of the nation.

The Campus

Ohio State has one of the most aesthetically pleasing campuses in the United States. Your long walk to your 8 a.m. will be full of some good scenery, and I’m not just talking about the women. The campus at Ohio State is legendarily beautiful, from what I’ve been told by an Ohio State alumnus. It doesn’t get talked about much, but having a good campus is essential for having a good college experience. No one wants to be stuck in a dumpy hellhole for four years (except those who willingly choose to attend Syracuse). The state of Ohio also has all 4 seasons too, if you’re into that sort of thing.

High Street

For anyone who has ventured down to Austin and hit up Sixth Street, High Street is the Columbus equivalent, and it is just as good. Short story time. While visiting Columbus one time, a few friends of mine got pretty drunk at a bar the name of which I can’t remember because I honestly don’t remember going into it. I am now blacklisted from said bar. I’m not blacklisted because I got too drunk and caused some destruction, though; no, I’m blacklisted because I started a fight with a guy because I didn’t like the fact that he was wearing a fedora. So yeah, you could say that High Street is a good time.

Academics

What’s lost in the athletic dominance shuffle that is Ohio State University is just how good their academics are. Easily one of the best public universities in the United States, and consistently a top 50 school in America. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, too. When you dive deep into the numbers, you’ll find that it is a top 10 school for Business Operations Management, which is a nice career path if you’re looking to make some money. Their graduate programs are also top notch, hosting top 30 law and business schools. So if you’re looking to get a good education and possibly (probably) see a championship in sports, Ohio State ain’t a bad little option.

Too bad the university leadership hates fun and is trying their best to ruin High Street.

Our frat row is epic. But other than the oval, our campus isn’t all that pretty. And uhhh Thad Matta is tanking our basketball team.

I go to Ohio State but still fuck this article. A “Why Ohio State Sucks” article would have been a much better read.

im trying not to be cynical but “athletics” “a campus” “greek life” “academics” i feel like youre just naming things a school has.

I’m guessing news was a little slow this week so you went in your old files and posted an article you wrote about 5 years ago. Our basketball team has been on the decline for a few years now, kappa hasn’t been hot in the three years I’ve gone here (plus they got kicked off last year), and the school bought up the main 5 blocks of high street and are tearing down all the bars (#savetoos) to build a “European style shopping district” and a stupid hotel. Trust me I love going here and don’t regret it in the slightest, but maybe get someone who has been on campus in the last year to write the article.

This was dumb as fuck. If you’re going to do an Ohio school, do Miami.
