5-Star QB Recruit Decommits From Bama Via Email To Saban, Saban Doesn’t Respond
Five-star quarterback recruit Ricky Town (great QB name) of California decommitted from the University of Alabama recently by way of email to Head Coach Nick Saban. He has since committed to the University of Southern California. I’m not positive, but I believe the standard protocol for a decommitment is a phone call to a member of the coaching staff. It’s as honorable as it gets when a face-to-face isn’t a viable option.
Part of me is like, “Dude, you’ve got to pick up that phone, no matter how uncomfortable the conversation might be. Be a man about it. Own it.” The other part of me thinks there is no way in hell I’d call the Nicktator to drop that kind of news in his lap. He could literally kill a man through the phone.
Yet, there’s a third part of me that thinks this kid might have high school balls of steel to just casually drop a bomb like that on the most intense football coach on the planet. Losing a five-star quarterback is as bad of a recruiting loss as there is for a head coach. Town knows this. Town knows Saban knows this. Maybe Town pulled the ol’ high school power move on Nick, showing off his carefree attitude about the situation. It’s something to think about.
From The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
“I sent Coach Saban an email and said ‘Thank you for everything, but I have to do what’s best for me,’” Ricky said. “I never heard back from Coach Saban. But one of the girls that works in his office, she wrote back and said ‘Best of luck.’”
We all knew Saban would get the last move in, didn’t we? Does he wish him luck? Does he thank him for notifying him? Does he try to convince him to keep his commitment with the Tide? No, of course not. He has his assistant fire a three-word email back at Town’s high school ass.

I would leave Alabama. The program hasn’t developed a credible quarterback in a while.
11 years ago at 5:32 pmThey don’t have much program history either, or a strong fan base for that matter.

11 years ago at 5:33 pmActually scratch that. He’d probably just email you that he decided to pledge PIKE.
11 years ago at 6:12 pmNo bid.
11 years ago at 5:34 pmHey, worse comes to worse at least he will be able to get a job when he graduates. USC > Bama. Fight on.
11 years ago at 5:34 pmWilling to bet this will be -58 by the time I check back on this post.
11 years ago at 5:35 pmWilling to bet you can definitely go fuck yourself.

11 years ago at 7:03 pmWell damn…
11 years ago at 5:37 pmI bet Saban is getting a game versus USC to kick his ass
11 years ago at 5:37 pmThe SEC play a tough non-conference game… I’d love to see it. Saban wants no part of SC but we’d take it any day.
11 years ago at 2:11 amSaban give zero fucks, and you have to respect him for that.
