98-Year-Old WWII And Doolittle Raid Veteran Just Did An Amazing Reddit AMA
After the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States was reeling, frightened, and though resolved to win the war, certainly bruised in pride. To help resuscitate the American spirit, as well as prove to the Japanese that not only were they vulnerable, but that they bit off a whole hell of a lot more than they could chew, America needed to show their enemies what the U.S.A. was capable of. In that effort, the Doolittle Raid was born. A sneak attack that involved flying large bombers for the first time ever off aircraft carriers and bombing the Japanese capital, Tokyo, the Doolittle Raid was a daring and suicidally dangerous mission, lead by legendary aviator and giant testicled American airman Lt. Col. Jimmy Doolittle. Riding shotgun for that mission was Lt. Col. Doolittle’s co-pilot, Lt. Col. Dick Cole. Today, Lt. Col. 11 years ago at 5:08 pmAwesome story…one correction. In the article you shortened Lt. Col. Cole to “Lt. Cole”. Generally, when shortening a Lieutenant Colonel’s rank, they are addressed as Col. Cole, not Lt. Cole. Not trying to nitpick but Colonel Cole deserves to be addressed properly.
