USA Today Coaches Poll Released

A few of my initial thoughts:

  • I’m surprised to see LSU at #1. They should have a great defense, maybe even best in the country, BUT they have a brand new QB. That should always be enough to keep a team out of the top spot, in my opinion. He had a great year at Butler Community College, but that’s Butler Community College. The lights in the SEC are much brighter. The kid’s a wildcard. He’s also a bit rapey.

  • USC should have the top spot. Their offense is going to be supernasty, like they’re going to rock fucking faces off in the Pac 12. They have the best QB in the country, best WR corp, and now they added a very good RB in Silas Redd from Pedo State. I get it, though – the SEC has won every natty going back to ’06. That’s why they hold the top two spots.

  • No problems with Bama at #2.

  • I think Oregon is a bit high, but they’re definitely a top 10 team. That plug-‘n-play offense is for real, and they have team speed that could compete for bronze in the 2012 Olympics.

  • OU is overrated. “Oh fuck you, Dorn. You’re a Texas guy. Biased little fuck face.” Yeah yeah, go fuck yourself. They really are overrated. After their most productive WR in program history, Ryan Broyles, went down last season to injury, that high-flying OU offense looked very pedestrian. And now he’s in the NFL. They have also suffered a smorgasbord of suspensions and injuries to key players. Their defense lost some key guys, as well, especially along the D-line. They belong somewhere around 9 – 12.

  • Georgia at 6? How many times are we going to go through this? They will trip over themselves, get up, and trip again. They can’t handle it, and they won’t be able to with Richt wearing the headset.

  • Move Florida State to 4 or 5. That defense is going to be great, and I think Manuel has a good year.

  • Surprised that Missouri is nowhere to be found in the top 25. I never thought they would end up in the top 25 when it’s all said and done, but they are good enough to start out there.

  • Notre Dame at 24 is funny. They sneak into the top 25 every damn season it seems like. They just don’t end up there after real games are played.

  • West Virginia is too high. Very good offense, but they’re not playing in the Big East anymore. They are now playing some formidable defenses. Speaking of defense, WVU doesn’t really have one. Move them to about the 18 spot.

  • Texas at 15 is about right, but they have a stock arrow pointing upward. The defense will be top 5 in the country, and the running game should be deadly if the O-line can hold up. However, they are currently accepting QB applications from intramural phenoms nationwide.

    One more month…

    1. CGerdes

How the hell is Florida at 23? I go there and I don’t agree with it. Our home games are easy wins, but our biggest games are on the road and I don’t see us winning more than 9 games this season. MAYBE we pull out a 25 spot at the end of the season, but I don’t think we’ve earned a top 25 spot before the season starts.

You sir, are an idiot. AU may not be at their best since they’re too young, but they’re hardly dog shit. They’ve had a top 10 recruiting class for the last 4 years. And Clemson huh? Did you hear that? I think West Virginia just scored again…

LOL, Clemson, report to the hazement…as a Mountaineer it was laughable to say the least when I attended the Orange bowl. It’s the first time I felt guilty for heckling elderly alumni. Anti-Clemson chants got so tired and pointless we reverted to our favorite chant of “Eat Shit Pitt!”

el oh el, my school presides in the top 5…

I Guaran-fucking-tee that Auburn doesn’t sit in the top 25 at the end of the season, and yes my team will be sitting top 5 once again after another bcs win.

You squad is dog shit…so prepare, because Clemson is still going to skull fuck Auburn

Congrats on the same tired old joke. Inbreeding, really? The royal family has done it for years and they’re doing fine. And that’s not a joke. Apparently you have never been to Morgantown. The majority of the student body is from MD, VA, and NJ. That being said, the girls are hot and totally tight butthole in the sense that they usually have loose buttholes by the end of their sophomore year. Shit loads to do, and no metro police to make you pay for your legal infidelities.

Oh fuck you, Dorn. You’re a Texas guy. Biased little fuck face.

Overrated or not, get ready for the inevitable asskicking coming your team’s way in Dallas again. Hopefully your fans stay longer than halftime this year.

Just wait until we sack the shit out of Landry Jones 4 times in the first half, while our 2 shutdown corners make life impossible for your receivers. I think it’s you who will be leaving early this year.

12 years ago at 11:38 am
      2. Fraterick Southgate

^Aww, thats just adorable. You guys really showed us last year. Plus, there’s this wild new concept that you need a good offense AND defense to win big games. Even if your defense gives us a few hurdles to jump, your offense is like driving in a Ford Pinto with two blown tires.

12 years ago at 11:54 am
      3. RupertPupkin

OU will be fine because Ol’ Bobby will start pulling all the thugs out of the local jails, just like he did yesterday in letting his suspended players back on the roster once he realized how thin they were at WR.

Speaking of thin at WR how fucking stupid does Courtney Gardner have to be? You can’t get into OU? That is like not being able to get laid at a whore house. Same thing for Trey Metoyer last year.

12 years ago at 1:47 pm
      4. Treenis

Unless OU sees a crazy injury like what happened to Bradford in ’09, they will own UT again this year. But Dorn is right when he says OU is overrated. They have been a top 5 preseason team almost every year since ’01 but they’ve only finished in the top 5 three or four times.

12 years ago at 2:38 pm
      5. five_fratpples

^ All of you OU fans are fucking retarded. Texas will have one of the top defenses in the country this year and they’re going to make life hell for Landry. Yeah you kicked UT’s ass last year and by a lot…congratulations. It’s a new year and it’s a full off-season under Harsin and Diaz. If Ash can just manage the game, Texas will beat OU. Also your recruits are shit now.

12 years ago at 3:47 pm
      6. the fratness monster

I don’t see Texas having a good running game at all. We all know they can’t count on Ash or McCoy to run, and Texas hasn’t been able to run the ball with a running back since Cedric Benson and even then they still lost to Oklahoma. They have been relying on QBs to do the running the past 6 years and centered their entire offense on one player (McCoy, Young) and it really kicked their ass the past two years having dismal records. Same thing happened to Florida after Tebow left, centering your entire offense on one player will bite your ass after they leave, must have balanced attack. Mack Brown is a very mediocre coach considering his recruiting advantage with the most prestigious football school in Texas, where a large majority of high school recruits come from (Texas), he should have more than 2 Big XII titles and a better record against Stoops. What I’m trying to say is…Oklahoma over Texas.
I agree with you Dorn, OU is a bit overrated in the poll, but I see them maturing quite nicely in non-conference games. They didn’t do poorly on offense because they lost Broyles, they did poorly because they lost both Broyles and Whaley. I don’t care what team it is, if you lose two of your most productive offensive players you’re going to have problems.

      7. RupertPupkin

Hey tha’ts a great point you just made. Other than the fact that you must have missed the part where Texas was Top 25 in the nation in rushing last year, and 7 guys had more rushing yards than the top rushing QB. Malcolm Brown rushed for 742 yards and was on pace to break the Texas freshman rushing record before getting hurt. But hey keep throwing out baseless crap, I’m sure one will stick sooner or later.

12 years ago at 8:25 am
      8. the fratness monster

^^ Please tell me why it’s acceptable to be in the top 25 in rushing. It’s the fucking University of Texas Austin. They should be in the top 5 rushing every year with how many five star recruits they get at running back. Yeah, baseless crap next time leave football for the big boys champ.

12 years ago at 4:30 pm
      9. RupertPupkin

Well that would put them 600 yards and 22 spots ahead of OU, who last I checked had more than their fair share of 5 star running backs too there champ.

12 years ago at 8:47 am
      10. RupertPupkin

And I know this is probably hard for you to comprehend, but a running game has very little to do with 5 star running backs, which Texas only had one of last year, and he missed 3 games and was limited in others due to injury, so again nice made up number. It has much more to do with offensive line which Texas has been down at the last couple years, as well as the threat of a passing game. Texas was top 25 last year with poor QB play and a below average O-line. What is OU’s excuse?

12 years ago at 8:52 am
    3. Rob Fox

Pffft I’m glad Mizzou isn’t in the Top 25. Great expectations, hell expectations in general, are our ruin time and again.

Being a Jayhawk I can at least say Missouri is a pretty good football program. Y’all might not ever be a top end SEC team, but I cannot believe they are not ranked. Not sure how people have higher expectations in the Irish than the Tigers.

    4. anon574839201

Michigan being ranked in front of Michigan State is a joke. “Golden Arm” Denard falls apart in October, they didn’t beat anyone of significance last year, Michigan State’s defense is returning 10 guys from what was one of the nation’s top defenses, and half of Michigan’s team is in jail.

      Totally agree ’bout USC.

12 years ago at 11:18 am
      1. Bush Light

Oh shut the fuck up Parks you GDI spartan. Get ready for an ass whipping under the lights at the best stadium in the country. Denard’s gonna tear that “top 10” defense apart.

12 years ago at 12:35 pm
      2. HarveySpecter

Id rather have ol’ golden arm calling plays than a weak replacement for the recently departed Captain Kirk… State may have eeked out a few wins the last few years but now that there is a real Michigan coach calling the shots on the sideline with a year under his belt, little brother is going back to getting hazed year in and year out by big Blue.

12 years ago at 12:40 pm
      3. RangerBaseball

Let’s get real. How Denard got the nickname “Golden Arm” is beyond ridiculous. Denard couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Horrible QB, good athlete. Players of Denard’s kind are like junkyard dogs, they can run and are physical but lack intellegence and aren’t fit for the quarterback position. Maxwell is already a better QB as far as I’m concerned. Michigan State has a top 5 defense as well. There won’t be much if any chimping around in the endzone when he goes up against Gholston and company this season.

12 years ago at 1:08 pm
      4. Bush Light

4 years in a row you got wins. Congratulations on being able to beat a mediocre Michigan team in its transition years. Get ready to be shit on the next 4 and beyond.

12 years ago at 2:11 pm
      5. OldCrowBourbon

JParks, you may have a valid point about Michigan State being ranked lower. I think Michigan’s schedule will be a bit much for them to handle to maintain a top 10 spot.

But a Spartan making a joke about another school’s players being in jail? C’mon.

12 years ago at 3:45 pm
      6. Chuck_Loadsman

How and Why would any Michigan fan feel that its warranted they talk shit to any other team. Given they hold the largest win record in history, it still doesn’t excuse the pathetic performance of the last decade. Losing to a D2 team, extremely NF. Stealing WV’s winning coaches in BB and FB and actually hurting your performance.NF…

Beating Wisconsin on a hail mary is “eeking out” a win. Beating notre dame on a fake field goal touchdown is “eeking out” a win. Doubling michigans output (much like in the real world) is not. Have fun being mediocre and choking up on your first job interview you awkward fuck.

12 years ago at 2:06 am
    5. jmt

Georgia is ranked #6 because they are returning 9 players on a top-5 defense, and Murray will be a 3rd year starter starter at QB. Couple that on with an “easy” schedule (if there is such a thing in the SEC), and it is an extremely sensible pick. They will be favored in every game they play, with the exception of going into Columbia against the Cocks. And say what you will about Mark Richt, but the man has won SEC championships in the past with a solid defensive coordinator, VanGorder, and Todd Grantham is the best defensive coordinator the Dawgs have had since Erk Russell was roaming the sidelines headbutting players as they came back to the sideline.

12 years ago at 11:19 am
      1. Fratlem Brotrotters

^ second dawgs will be good this season. But I can’t stand Bobo. The man is a moron and I don’t understand the draws on third and long. Use your top quaterback sir. I am also pissed about Auburn trying to steal our recruits. How does it feel to be the fourth best team in the sec west?

12 years ago at 12:02 pm
      2. Success

Quit whining, AU outrecruited you, period. And honestly fourth best in the west equates to the best in the east. Nice job in the SEC championship game by the way.

      3. jmt

^^A recruit isn’t yours until they sign, especially in the SEC. So its hard to get mad at anybody for doing exactly what every SEC school is doing.

^4th best team in the West last year was Auburn, and did you not see the full on ass whopping that Auburn received Between the Hedges last year? And every Dawg fan who isn’t just a complete homer went into the SECCG with lowered expectations. And no matter how the game finished, I was screaming my ass of at every damn Cajun in sight when the Tigers couldn’t even muster a first down in the first half. Too bad the special teams was a different story.

12 years ago at 12:41 pm
      4. Fratlem Brotrotters

^ if only uga played the second half the same as the first, things would be a lot different. And that’s funny Success, I do remember kicking yalls asses last year. Now shut up pledge, grown ups are talking.

12 years ago at 1:04 pm
      5. Success

Every season’s different, sparky. And I have no doubt that you had nothing to do with that win last year. I have vivid memories of AU railing UGA and they will again. I have nothing against the dawgs and I like Richt but little shit talking “fans” like you just destroy any good faith. Enjoy the east and try a little harder with the “pledge” talk, kiddo.

12 years ago at 1:21 pm
      6. Success

No son, you’re shit talking. And yes, UGA won last year, no question. And we beat them the year before, you remember that? The year we won the National Championship and the Heisman? Remember? When’s the last time that happened in Athens? Oh right, never. Your last title was 30 or so years ago I believe. Georgia has a better team right now. That will change.

      9. Tallapoosa Snu

By the end of the season, the Dawgs have a legit chance at winning the SEC, plenty of returning starters, on the off chance we get a breakout RB we’ll be a very complete team. Dorn, give us some respect. Richt deserves it too. He doesnt take shit from players, people give him shit all the time and he still rises above it and if you fuck up, he wont hesitate to bench your ass. He’s a great football coach, and he also cares about the well being of his players even after they move on. If he was cutthroat like Saban, yeah we’d probably have more wins. But he’s a respectable guy, and the wins will come. UGA going undefeated wouldn’t surprise me at all, us Dawgs fans believe. This year is gonna be quite a season.

Oh and I forgot to mention, FUCK BOBO. He’s got to go. That’s one thing I can’t stick with my team about. The dude makes some play calls that blow my fuckin mind how nonsensical the shit is

12 years ago at 1:17 am
      11. ViolentVomit

Georgia will not be the team people project them to be because they have no offensive line this season. They have no depth and project to start a true fresh on the OL, which no matter how talented the boy is he is still a freshman. The D however will be good, but the offense will be anemic.

^Exactly, y’all obviously know nothing about what’s going on in the NCAA. If TFM is your only source for your football knowledge, you’re a dumbass. No offense to the writers of TFM, but they aren’t exactly top of the line sports analysts. This is a humor site, where most of the articles are heavily opinionated with little to no actual facts and substance. That being said, I would take Zack Mettenberger any day over the dumb ape we had finish the season last year in Jordan Jefferson.

its probably because they had a top 8 defense that returned 9 starters and maybe its also because they are riding the number one recruiting class in the nation from ’10 into this season….. but thats just a thought. and as far as not getting any better…. the incoming class was last years number two overall. nice

Of course Missouri isn’t a top 25 team. They never were and never will be a football school. Sure they got some nice recruits this off season, but I doubt that’s going to help them this year.
