Canceling your membership at Augusta. TFM.

This really pisses me off. If there were an all woman club they’d never force men to join too. It’s such crap. They’ve ruined a beautiful tradition for political correctness.

And now the cancer of liberalism has metastasized into the sacred halls of Augusta. A sad day for America.

not really. i think seriously it is more a sign of the economic times. reality is that the number of private clubs has drastically diminished the past few years – outside of Augusta – most clubs are losing members or can’t attract them, largely because they can’t afford to keep up with the dues (the financial sector is not what it used to be). not going to say i support Augusta’s decision – but, its more a sign that membership is a bit more open – in order to not have to shutter the club doors because the bills need to be paid. alot of private clubs are hurting right now.

More specifically it started with IBM naming a female CEO. You don’t just apply to Augusta; Augusta seeks you out. Augusta felt some heat when IBM named the female CEO due to the fact that historically The National always invites IBM’s new CEO to join. Well at the end of the day Augusta runs off of selective advertising during some golf tournament they host (I know) and IBM is one of their biggest money valves. IBM wants to run ad space on CBS who wants to control The Masters television rights which means all parties need to get paid. Boom. Female members. IBM writes a big check. Augusta stays on top. CBS still owns television rights.

IBM was never going anywhere. And even if they did there would have been a line miles long to take their place.

nice post. there seems to be an inevitability that this would happen. but looking at the financial industry which seemed as reluctant as Augusta National in breaking tradition, even among hedge fund managers you can’t help but see more women and minorites the past few years. things change – the smart one’s adapt. those who don’t – go extinct.

The more important question is why IBM named a woman CEO when they knew it was going to cause a predicament like this one.

^^ you nailed it. Fuck no they don’t need money or memberships WARREN BUFFETT, BILL GATES, those two alone have got enough money to buy 3000 golf courses across America… money is not an issue there. they bitched out and sold out to political pressure. It went from what it was, one of a kind to just a really nice club thats no different than the rest.
