Because red drum is a significant catch and release fishery it is highly recommended that one wear gloves, not to keep icky fish juice off of your hands, but to keep dirty human hands from taking the mucous off of the fish. Without the mucous the fish become prone to infection and are much more likely to die. More dead fish mean that it’s harder for you to enjoy catching them. Asshole.

^^^ thanks for copying and pasting something to back yourself up. I’ll remember to put some gloves on right before I rip a barbed-hook out of a red fish’s mouth bc mucous is the main thing the fish has to worry about.

^ Please just shut the hell up. I doubt you have been fishing anywhere besides the local pond with kids catching sun fish and don’t know the first thing about deep sea fishing. Gloves are necessary especially when handling fish that are sensitive to humans and also when you are lipping a fish especially large ones like red drum. And if i ever saw someone rip a hook out of a fish’s mouth i would kick them off the boat.

^ It’s a red drum. Red drum have scales. Therefore no gloves are needed…Unless you’re a pussy. You’re more than welcome to come down to Venice, LA and show me how to catch some “Sun” fish.
