Chizik Puts Auburn Football Players on Short Leash, Hires Firm to Enforce Nightly Curfews
Part of the deal when accepting that full scholarship to a football-centric university is the knowledge that the next four or five years on campus will be consumed by outrageous ‘big man on campus’ tales. After all, these blue chip athletes are mini celeb types in their (mostly) small college towns. All schools offer different variations of the American college football stud dream, but they have something in common, too – a ripe, debauchery-conducive environment ready for a vigorous ravaging. This is all taken into consideration when deciding one’s college football destination, and a big decision it is.
Some members of the Auburn Tigers football team may be experiencing some letter-of-intent signing remorse. Curfews on the eve of gameday are common practice, but a nightly curfew is unheard of. Until now.
Stanley Dallas, the Auburn Regional Manager of the Event Operations Group, confirmed members of his staff are working in conjunction with members of Auburn’s football player development department to “enforce” player curfews throughout the week.
The Event Operations Group, Inc. is a “national full service event management, staffing, and security provider,” according to its website. […] Curfews are a common practice on the evenings before games but Auburn instituted a nightly curfew, a far more rare practice, and the use of paid personnel from a private security firm to assist in enforcing a curfew may be unprecedented.
Staff members of the EOG routinely enter “the homes of football players who live off-campus [to confirm] they are home by the team’s 11 p.m. curfew.” What prompted this outlandish method of curfew enforcement? It “began shortly after the arrest of center Reese Dismukes for public intoxication on Aug. 25.” Sounds like a glorified babysitting gig.
You tryin’ to tell me this guy was cuffed for a public intox?
He doesn’t look like the kinda guy who would take down a beer or 20 too many.
The Auburn Tigers are currently sitting at 2-7 and have to answer to babysitters. Been a tough run, guys.
