Muschamp to Saban: “Be careful what you ask for, Nick”

“Well, I can switch and go to Atlanta if he doesn’t want to go to Atlanta and play the Dawgs. Be careful what you ask for, Nick.”

This was UF head coach Will Muschamp’s response to Nick Saban’s uncharacteristic bellyaching over the BCS bowl game format. Saban believes that the Gators, fourth-ranked in the BCS, are undeserving of a Sugar Bowl bid because they didn’t win their division and advance to SEC conference championship game. “No. 2 Alabama plays No. 3 Georgia for the SEC title Saturday, with the winner advancing to the BCS title game in Miami and the loser probably landing in the Capital One Bowl in Orlando.”

How quickly we forget, Nick. Didn’t you have to eat your words after saying only conference winners should advance to the title game, then being the beneficiary of the very notion you were opining against? That worked out well for your Crimson Tide last season, no?

“It’s not really a great scenario,” Saban said. “You play your way into the (SEC) championship game, which means you’re the best team in your division. … It doesn’t seem quite right, but it is what it is. I don’t really know what me commenting about it is going to do to change it. But I don’t feel good about it.”

This seems like such a mundane thought to be occupying the mind of a head coach preparing for a conference title game, and in effect a national title game. Bigger fish to fry. Thankfully we have a coach like ‘Champ who isn’t afraid to poke the bear a little, and this case certainly justified it.

“We knew the rules of engagement when we started the season,” Muschamp said. “I’m not one that’s going to sit there and complain about it. It is what it is. We had our opportunity in Jacksonville, and we didn’t get it done.

“That’s our fault. Nobody else’s.”

We’re ready for him. Jarvis and Ogletree are gonna make Lacy wish he never even started playing football. It’s gonna be a lot better game than people expect.

^ Notre. And it isn’t like Alabama had a great schedule. The only two quality teams they played were LSU and A&M and they should’ve lost both and did lose one. They were also the only top 3 team in the West that didn’t play a top 3 from the East. Alabama won the West solely because of one easy schedule and I’m an SEC fan.

They have a gripe to go to the BCS NCG if Bama wins the SECCG. They beat TAMU and Bama didn’t. On the road much less.

Saban in 2011: You don’t have to win your division to go to the BCS NCG. Saban in 2012: You need to win your division to go to the BCS NCG.

The point is, last year, Bama didn’t skip LSU to play for the Natty like Florida would jump UGA. Obviously a different scenario.
