University Of Tennessee Uses A Drone To Monitor Football Practices
Who knew drones were available to the consumer for purchase and recreational use? Not me. When I hear the word “drone,” I immediately think military strike by the push of a button from hundreds or thousands of miles away. You can buy some pretty sweet drones, though, and they’re even much cheaper than I imagined they’d be.
The UT athletic department shelled out a couple grand or so for this bad boy to monitor and film football practices. No more taking plays off during practice, guys. The eye in the sky doesn’t lie, and it catches everything.
Staying with the military angle here, I wonder if this thing could be customized with some sort of firing mechanism — maybe a gun that shoots those beanbags for crowd control, or possibly some non-lethal rubber bullets. All you need to do then is have someone up in the coaching booth watch practice on the drone camera monitor, and whenever someone screws up he can take the necessary corrective measures via drone strike.
Miss a block, whap! Beanbag to the back. Hit the wrong hole, bam! Another to the rib cage. Drop a pass, thump! Rubber bullet to the helmet. They’d be battered and bruised, sure, but talk about an accountable football team.
Remote control nerd sold separately.
