Sigma Nu At OU Will Soon Have The Nicest House In The Country

Per a tipster who brought this to our attention, “Sigma Nu at the University of Oklahoma is building a new house that essentially looks like a 5-star hotel.”

SN

Well said. It legitimately does look like a 5-star boutique hotel you would find in the historic district of some charming U.S. destination city. My initial reaction, other than the obvious HOLY SHIT!, is that I really love the L-shape design with the front entrance and patio areas being on the corner. Naturally, they are going with the classic red brick facade that is a staple of American fraternity houses. Very sharp.

From the chapter’s website:

The future Sigma Nu house will be in the same location at 1300 College Ave as it has been for the last 40 years. The architect, Steven Newby (ΔE 1373), is the grandson of the chapter’s founder Errett Newby (ΔE 1).

Unfortunately, this is the only rendering I’m able to find. I also can’t track down any specific details of the house. As noted in the above photo, the home is scheduled to be completed some time this year, so you’d have to think the construction is well under way at this point. I just can’t find any photos of this fraternal palace anywhere.

Here’s a photo of their lot I found on the chapter Facebook page, but that’s it:

The fraternity arms race is a fun one to watch. Houses just keep getting bigger and better as the never-ending battle of landing bluechip rushees never takes a day off. Let’s hope these guys are able to contain their excitement and hang onto their new house, unlike the poor bastards of Virginia Tech’s Sig Ep chapter who had to hand over the keys to their brand new $5 million house to independents.

Not a student there but it seems like OU has the one of the nicest collections of fraternity houses in the country.

South Greek is awesome there. This is right by FIJI’s new house and DU. SN sold half of the lot to ATO. Its gonna be a tiny lot with nowhere to park…

That house looks awesome, don’t get me wrong, I just feel like fraternity houses should have the classic white columns in the front portico.

Can these even be called houses, at this point? That’s an RA-less dorm, exclusively for the Snus.

Nah it’s definitely still a house. The outside is gorgeous, really just depends how the inside ends up looking. If the inside is a glorified dorm, then yeah, that sucks.

You’re missing the point, man. At what point does it become too much? Do fraternity houses really need a 100-seat auditorium (Mizzou Beta) or to house 837 guys? No. Congrats to these guys, they’re getting a great-looking Snu-themed residence hall. More power to ’em. As for me, I’ll take my classic 25-man white-columned brick frat house. It may not have 9340927 square feet of room or a built-in computer lab that rivals the library’s, but it’s got history, and it’s home.

^Tudor style is what you were going for. Nice try, and that is a big stretch to call it that style.

This does seem to be pushing it a little too far I feel with this people will only be looking at the size of the house and not the people in it. Don’t get me wrong, They are probably some great guys but it seems to be a little overkill.

I love the nostalgic Americana touch of the classic red Ford Mustang at the front of the house. These bastards are really trying to tug at America;s heartstrings
