Green Jacket Of First Ever Master’s Winner Finally Found, Up For Auction

I didn’t pick up the game of golf until about a year ago. If you had asked me what a green jacket was before then, I probably would’ve told you it was some sort of insect relative of the yellow jacket. Even though I’m all about the one true beautiful game now, sometimes I feel like instead of watching the Masters, I’d rather watch the Masturs (the World Masturbation Championship that takes place every year in Gary, Indiana). Regardless, this story is still pretty cool.

For 42 years, the green jacket awarded to the first winner of the Masters has been in Michael Lackovic’s closet… Augusta National Golf Club awarded its first green jacket to Sam Snead in 1949 but retroactively gave jackets to the nine winners of the 12 previous Masters tournaments. Prior to a phone call to Ryan Carey, the owner of Green Jacket Auctions, the jacket awarded to the tournament’s 1934 winner, Horton Smith, was thought to have disappeared.

Apparently Lackovic is in possession of the most prized blazer in sports because his late mother’s second husband was the brother of Horton Smith, who willed the jacket to the Lackovics when he passed away.

I just took a visit to GreenJacketAuctions.com to see if the money I make writing jokes about Indianan masturbation tournaments on TFM could potentially fund the purchase. After seeing that the current price of Smith’s green jacket is $60,229 with over eleven days left at auction, I don’t think that will work out.
