85 Richest People On Earth Are Worth As Much As The Poorest Half Of World’s Population
The richest 85 people on the planet, about the number that could comfortably stand around a cluster of high-roller craps tables in a Vegas casino, have a combined wealth that equals that of the poorest half of the world’s population, according to a study by Oxfam. That’s roughly 3.5 billion people — compared to 85.

The United States leads the way — by a lot — in lopsided wealth distribution. After all, someone has to pay for the, uh, lap dancers for the big guy here.

The fortunes Gates and Buffet pale to the equivalents of Carnegie and Rockefeller in their time (each worth over 300 Billion in today’s dollars). How bad was that for us? We ended up with railroads, cars, a booming economy, concert halls, universities etc. These people are who make America great.

The former creates jobs for engineer types, which is cool, because I’m one, but does lead to a high wealth distribution, as the study reveals. I know everyone here is FMing hard in the 1% but a reasonable wealth gap is desirable for a nation and her individuals.
