Baltimore Ravens Fullback Goes Back To School, Lives In Shitty Dorm

“You know what I miss? Dorm life. There was just something about sharing a 140 square foot room with my buddy, eating ramen, and hiding my booze from RAs. It’s just great, man. I would kill to live in a dorm again” – said no one, ever.

Except for maybe Kyle Juszczyk, the Baltimore Ravens’ fourth round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Juszczyk, a 245 pound fullback, has returned to Harvard to finish up his bachelor’s in economics, which, in my opinion, makes sense. If you go to Harvard, you might as well finish your damn degree. Also, Juszczyk can one-up ANY person he comes in contact with. Oh, you got a great entry-level job at some marketing firm straight out of college? This kid’s already got a year in the NFL with the 2013 Super Bowl champions. You graduated in December? Cool, but this guy took time off from completing his degree at Harvard to train with his future teammates. Harvard degree + active NFL player = forever winning.

So what is it like coming back to campus after taking a year off for the NFL? Well, it’s not too common for Harvard football players to make it to the NFL. The one notable exception is Matt Birk, who was also a Baltimore Raven. Birk eventually became a six-time Pro Bowl selection, a two-time All-Pro, and of course, a Super Bowl champion. No big deal or anything. Anyway, when Juszczyk re-enrolled, his classmates treated him like a celebrity, but he had trouble getting back into college life.

“It was weird at first just getting back into the student life and living in a dorm and sitting in lectures,”Juszczyk said. “But after a few weeks it went back to how it used to be and not so many people were asking me questions and stuff.”

It didn’t help that he left the two hardest economics courses for this semester, either. In his defense, taking a heavy courseload while in season is a death sentence, but waiting until the last semester? You’d think someone who was smart enough to get into Harvard would’ve knocked those courses out a lot earlier. At least he already has a set job as the Ravens’ starting fullback.

You would think one of Harvard’s few NFL selections would get the top pick of housing options, or maybe even the option to live in an apartment not too far from campus. Well, not exactly…

“I probably have the worst dorm I’ve had in my four years here,” he said. “I showed up in the spring and all of the rooms were taken. It’s pretty tiny.”

Juszczyk is spending his last semester in a 140 square foot room with a former teammate of his. So maybe he isn’t reminiscing on the good times he had in dorms, and by the sound of it, he can’t wait to get out. Who can blame him, though?
