Iraq Veteran Adopts K9 Partner After Being Separated For A Year, Dog’s Reaction Is Priceless And Heartwarming

Air Force Sergeant David Simpson, a native of Mulberry, Fla., spent more than four years deployed in Iraq defending our nation. By his side was his best friend, Robbie, an 85 pound German Shepherd, who also made the conscious decision to enlist and serve. When Simpson retired from active duty last year for medical reasons, he was forced to leave Robbie overseas with another handler.

The pain of losing his best friend was extremely hard for Simpson. So, when he received a random Facebook message telling him Robbie was going to retire patrol as well, he knew what he had to do.

Simpson booked a $2,000 plane ticket to Germany’s Spangdahlem Air Base, where Robbie was stationed, with plans to adopt the pup. When the two met eyes for the first time in nearly a year, Robbie’s reaction was absolutely priceless. Get the tissues ready, people.

There’s nothing like a long awaited reunion with your best friend, and it’s clear that these two picked up right where they left off.

Robbie has since moved in with the Simpsons and is getting along wonderfully with the entire family. “My goal for him is to allow him to have as much fun and relaxation for the rest of his life. I just want him to enjoy his retirement,” Simpson said.

It looks like Robbie is doing just that, based on Tampa’s Fox13 candid coverage of the story.

Hands down, this is the best thing I’ve seen all week.

Thanks for serving, David and Robbie. It’s the people (and pups) like you who allow us to lead the freedom-embracing lives we do.
