People Who Bet Germany Would Beat Brazil 7-1 Won A Shitload Of Money

Two weeks ago, I told y’all about how 167 people won money after betting Luis Suarez would bite someone at the World Cup. Those odds were 175-1 (about the same odds my mom gave me that I will have my first kiss soon). Both of those seemed like incredibly far-fetched bets–almost jokes–and the odds were only 175-1. What were the odds that yesterday’s 7-1 German beatdown of Brazil would occur? 999-1 (about the same as the odds that I’ll actually have my first kiss soon).

From ESPN:

Barry Orr, a spokesman for England-based Betfair, told ESPN.com that three bettors, who placed a total of $11 on Germany beating Brazil 7-1, raked in approximately $11,000.

Bookmakers around the world didn’t even list the improbable score as an option, but Betfair offers an exchange where fans can set up a wager on its platform.

Betfair didn’t even have Germany’s 7-1 rout as an option in their betting platform. The three bettors had to manually enter their desired bet and were given the 999-1, Betfair’s maximum odds. For all we know, the odds, had they been calculated, could’ve been even greater.

I’m not sure if this bet is legit, but if it is, one person struck gold by betting $20 that Sami Khedira would score and Germany would go on to win 7-1 at 2319-1 odds. I have no idea what possessed this man to take this bet (if it did, in fact, actually happen) but boy, did it pay off.

What a bunch of smart, smart idiots.

The betting rules here as opposed to England blow. I would love to just be able to place bets on my phone.
