Cardinals Catcher Used Matthew McConaughey’s Chest-Thump From “Wolf Of Wall Street” For His Walk Up Music

cruz

Talk about a power move. Tony Cruz, the backup catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals — a role which, considering who he backs up, might as well be called “being that guy no one ever wants to see” — has some big shoes to fill while All-Star catcher Yadier Molina sits on the DL recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb. Helping (the best and classiest) fans temporarily forget about Molina, who is the Cardinals’ most popular and arguably most valuable player, is not an enviable task. Cruz, however, is doing his best to help the fans get over the loss of Molina. At least, Cruz is doing his best to help Cards fans forget Molina before he gets to the plate, because once he gets there, oh man does he suck ass.

The point is, Tony Cruz has the best walk up music in baseball right now, and the rest of the league just got put on notice that they need to step up their game. Here’s Cruz coming to bat against the Tampa Bay Rays as McConaughey’s epic chest bump pump up from “The Wolf of Wall Street” blares over the Busch Stadium sound system.

As far as movie scenes go, the McConaughey chest bump is up there on the badass sports intro options. Here are a few others that would work as well.

Hell’s Coming With Me – Tombstone
This would be perfect for a closer’s entrance. What’s Craig Kimbrel entering to these days? From now on it should be this.

Bitch, You Don’t Have A Future – Kill Bill, Volume 2
This would be fine in any women’s sport, really. I know they don’t have walk up music for PKs, but Alex Morgan walking up to the box for the clinching PK with that playing in the background would both arouse and terrify me. The goalie would probably just break down into a weeping mess and crawl away.

Win The Whole Fuckin’ Thing – Major League
This is kind of cheating, since it’s from a sports movie, and it’s kind of a quiet scene, but this should be played before every potential series clinching playoff game a home team has.

Blame Canada – South Park
Any time the U.S. plays Canada in anything.

During the ninth inning the announcers were doing it as a rally chant. Baseball will never be the same.

I love that this website, whenever possible, takes the time to recognize that the cardinals are the best fans in baseball. I totally agree. With that said I am sure it is nothing more than a tone of jealous sarcasm (the same tone Bacon uses when he talks about not fucking any girl that’s been with a black guy) because Bacon probably is a Braves or Cubs fan and invariably suffers from the lack of confidence his teams tiny October nuts provide.

If you had a larger brain, you would know that Bacon is actually from Missouri. And the Cards are FaF.

I actually do think the Cardinals have the best fans in baseball, but I also think it’s pathetic how much those fans feel the need to announce to the world over and over again their self-appointed, albeit not untrue, title, and how defensive they get when other people give them shit for it, as if it matters in any way whatsoever. So, yeah, there was definitely some sarcasm in my words.

As far as classiest fans in baseball? No. That’s literally unquantifiable and insanely stupid to claim. There are classy fan bases everywhere, as well as classless fan bases. You can lump them into groups, but you can’t give them rankings. It’s yes or no, not 1 through 30. Minnesota just gave Derek Jeter a standing ovation at the All-Star game. Hooray. Far as I could tell they didn’t make a big deal out of that gesture happening. Cardinals fans, meanwhile, would have praised themselves endlessly for it. That, too, is sad. You don’t deserve a pat on the back for giving someone a pat on the back. Pretty sure classy people don’t concern themselves with how classy they are, and they can certainly take a joke, with, you know, class, when someone teases them. But when it comes to the topic of their own “classiness” Cards fans turn into defensive pricks. In those ways Cardinals fans are, in fact, quite classless.

Kimbrel’s walk out song is “welcome to the jungle”. That’s pretty badass

Tony Cruz lags behind Molina in everything but walk up music. Maybe he can get Yadi to change that Mariachi shit he’s been using.
