Navy Unveils Alternate Uniforms That Display Each Player’s Rank, May Cause Patriot Boners
The U.S. Naval Academy will bring the heat this weekend against Ohio State, and they will look pretty damn cool while doing so. Under Armour and Navy just revealed the team’s new alternate uniforms, based on actual U.S. Navy “summer white” attire.
The uniforms even display rank on the shoulders and the pants. Freshman players will have an anchor, sophomores will have an anchor with a stripe, juniors will have an anchor with two stripes, seniors will have an anchor with parallel stripes, and captains will lose the sweet anchor logo but gain a star and three parallel stripes instead.
Perhaps the coolest part is the helmet design: a sweet white on navy design with a gold stripe, inspired by the hat the Naval officers in training wear as part of their “summer white” uniforms.
Under Armour can be pretty hit or miss when it comes to college uniforms (see: Maryland) but this time, the company absolutely knocked it out of the park. Chalk another one up for America.

That isn’t rank but okay
10 years ago at 2:01 pmMy bad if that’s wrong, Phil. It was reported that way from the source.
10 years ago at 2:13 pmLooks like ranks to me. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:USN_Midshipman_Insignia.png
10 years ago at 2:26 pmPhillip is right, having a class insignia is different then having a cadre or rank insignia. It’s to show you what year (Freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) they are. Close though!
10 years ago at 3:53 pmIt is considered rank. That’s why the captains have three stripes and the star (MIDN Lieutenants) and the other seniors still have the anchor and single stripe (MIDN in Ranks).
10 years ago at 5:11 pmIt is Midshipman rank. Used in NROTC and at the Academy.
10 years ago at 2:30 pmActually it is Phillip. As a US Army cadet, I can tell you each grade has a different rank. For example, freshmen are cadet privates. Those symbols on the navy uniform are the symbols of their ranks.

10 years ago at 2:03 pmIt’s actually midshipman rank, it’s a military school https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/75/USN_Midshipman_Insignia.png/640px-USN_Midshipman_Insignia.png
