A chemistry teacher packing heat: we’ve heard this story before in the form of a successful, Emmy award-winning drama. Now, news out of Idaho State is that a chemistry professor was involved in an on-campus shooting. Do we have ourselves a real life Walter White?

From Idaho State Journal:

An instructor was wounded in the foot after his concealed handgun discharged in a classroom at the Physical Science Complex on the Idaho State University campus at about 4 p.m. Tuesday. The instructor, who was teaching in the chemistry department, was not taken by ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center, but his wound was treated and he was released from the hospital Tuesday evening.

Nope, just some idiot Plaxico Burressing himself in front of his class. Okay, new angle on this story. Plaxico did two years in the sin bin for shooting himself, so what is this guy in for?

Legislation now allows concealed carry on campuses in Idaho so long as the person has obtained an enhanced permit. Enhanced permits require additional training.

Discharging a firearm within city limits is a misdemeanor, but police said any charges will be determined when the investigation is completed.

This isn’t New York City and he had the proper permits. He’ll most likely just get a slap on the wrist with a few fines, if that.

Listen, I’m all for the right to bear arms, but morons like this guy are the ones who give us a bad reputation.

Luckily, the only injuries were to the professor’s foot and pride.

I would like to know more details on this. Negligent discharges like this don’t just happen…was the firearm improperly reassembled after a field strip? Did he bump up against a desk? I have a hard time believing he was in the middle of a lecture and his weapon just discharged….that being said, props to Idaho for allowing CC on campus.
