Behold The Most Luxurious Watch Ever Made, Priced At $2.6M
Now, I could understand if Cowboys running back Joseph Randle tried to steal this thing, because unlike the $140 worth of cologne and underwear he was caught looting, this downright luxurious Patek Philippe is literally worth more than his entire NFL contract.
Valued at more than $2.6 million, the beautiful timepiece–aptly named the Grandmaster Chime–is being released to celebrate the 175th anniversary of one of the world’s most prestigious watchmakers.
For those not so familiar, Patek Philippe is widely considered by those in the horological world to be among the finest crafted watches in the world. For those even less in the know, horology is the study of time–and if you’re wearing a PP to do so, chances are, you dropped more than six figures to have that luxury.
Developed for the past eight years and using a case made up of 214 parts, along with an alligator skin strap, the Grandmaster Chime is the new undisputed epitome of “boss” in the watch world.
Yeah, it’s more than stunning.
Weighing in at more than two pounds, due to the complexity of construction, the Grandmaster boasts both a face for time and another for a calendar keeping, which are reversible at the owner’s will. The timekeeping face includes a moon phase indicator just in case you’re too busy swimming in piles of cash to know whether the sun is still up or not. There’s also a specific alarm to let you know what day Easter is, in case you’re spring break jet-setting to some crazy, remote island with a ton of models and booze, and you just so happen to forget. The casing made of 18-carat rose gold is completely engraved by hand and holds in it a movement containing 1,366 parts, which operate an unheard of 20 complications (read: features).
Among these features are a grande and petite sonnerie (think grandfather clock chiming mechanisms), a date repeater, several alarm settings, a leap year cycle, an instantaneous, perpetual calendar, and a movement power reserve indicator, just in case you forget to wear it for a few weeks…since that’s likely to happen, right?
Even if you have the extra cash on hand–and a ridiculous affinity for luxury timepieces–good luck getting your hands on this baby. Only seven are set to be produced. One will remain in the Patek Philippe museum in Geneva, and the other six will go to clients not yet publicly identified.
