The World’s Most Famous Athletes Tweeted Highly Offensive Things Before Twitter Went Mainstream

There’s nothing I love more than unfiltered opinions from pro athletes, which are a rarity these days. The PR-shielded world of professional sports gets extremely mundane, so it’s refreshing when athletes give their actual opinions on things, or say things that are just hilariously awful. Basically I miss Joe Namath.

You can imagine my delight when an enterprising Redditor by the name of /u/JewishDoggy (fantastic) posted an album of tweets from NBA players from before Twitter was a social media behemoth, that are SOMEHOW still up. The man took a deep dive, and came up with pure gold.

Behold:

Kevin Durant on his education.

Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant on his weird relationship with Westbrook.

Durant 2

Kevin Durant on his disdain for Lil B. This goes on for many tweets, and led to what many refer to as the “Curse of the Based God,” which some believe is responsible for the Thunder’s inability to win a championship, as well as his injury this season.

Durant 3

Kevin Durant on his love of cocoa butter.

Durant 4

Evan Turner’s nuanced thoughts on Nowitzki’s new girlfriend.

Evan Turner

Nick Collison’s judicious spending of his money.

Nick Collison

Paul George going off on his Fresno State teammates.

Paul George

My favorite one-liner by far, Marreese Speights sharing his opinion on the commish.

Speights

Damian Lillard going OFF on LeBron for his performance in the 2011 Playoffs. It reads like a slow descent into madness.

Lillard1

Lillard2

Lillard3

Lillard4

Lillard5

Lillard6

That’s maybe half of the hilarity encased in this album. Thank God “JewishDoggy” took screen caps, because there’s no way in hell most of these tweets are still live by tomorrow.

  1. NBA players used the n-word and were too stupid to realize stuff might come back to bite them in the ass? Color me shocked!

The first tweet I ever read.
JR Smith circa 2009 – “bouta smoke a blunt with Carmelo.”
“He likes swishers but I prefer the optimos.”
It was a much simpler time back then.

These are the types of things people should be able to say without the backlash of the idiocracy style court of public opinion screaming and bullying anyone who is not politically correct.
