Tom Izzo Walks Into Opposing Team’s Locker Room And Tears Them A New Asshole For Not Giving Michigan State A Challenge
When Michigan State scheduled St. Cloud State for an exhibition warmup last Friday, it was expected the Spartans would outclass their Division II opponent with superior size, speed, and overall talent. Tom Izzo’s squad did just that and laid a major beat down on the Huskies, 101-46. The game was so uncompetitive, Izzo felt the need to express his displeasure to the team his Spartans had just wiped the floor with.
From College Basketball Talk:
So Izzo decided to take matters into his own hands on Saturday morning. After being arranged by first-year St. Cloud State head coach Matt Reimer, Izzo spoke to the Huskies for 40 minutes, criticizing the team’s captains for a lack of leadership and challenging them to be better.
According to a report from Andy Rennecke of the St. Cloud Times, Izzo specifically called junior point guard Jordan Poydras out for his 1-for-7 performance on Friday night and for being a team captain on a team that didn’t bring a great effort.
This is why Izzo is an all-time great. Not only will he embarrass you on the court, but then he’ll spend 40 minutes of his time to berate you for not giving his team enough of a challenge. Total power move.
The lecture apparently struck a chord with St. Cloud players, who responded positively from the harsh criticism.
“I think it helped us get our heads on straight,” Poydras said to Rennecke. “It’s nice hearing that feedback from somebody who has been around the game so long. He knows so much. For him to talk to us, and the things he said, really means a lot.”
My only question is, what the fuck was first-year coach Matt Reimer doing the entire time? Did he bust out a notepad and pen to take notes? You can’t expect a legendary coach to do your job after every game. Or maybe you can. Throw a few extra bucks Bobby Knight’s way and I’m sure the old man would throw a chair or two when he’s not too busy adding nothing as a color commentator for ESPN. .

Izzo would get way out of hand and most likely murder Durant and HelmetStickers. I’d approve.

11 years ago at 4:41 pmFamily disappointment. His nephew plays for the other team, because I’m assuming Izzo’s family doesn’t exactly breed the normal size/demographic for D1 recruits.
11 years ago at 4:48 pmSt. Cloud is the asshole of Minnesota. I seriously hate that town.
