Johnny Manziel Tells The Story Of Tiger Woods Denying Him His Autograph

Before Johnny Manziel took over College Station, won the Heisman, and got drafted by the Cleveland Browns, he was just an average American kid who was infatuated with sports. Not only did Johnny toss around the pigskin growing up, but he loved the game of golf–especially the biggest star in the game, Tiger Woods. During a recent interview, which is set to appear in the December issue of Golf Digest, Manziel tells the story of the first interaction he had with his golf hero.
From Golf Digest:
[I was] About 9 or 10. My dad played in a member-guest at Isleworth every year with a friend, and we’d take our family vacation to Orlando. One day I ended up playing with a bunch of kids at the house of Thurman Thomas [Pro Football Hall of Famer], of all people. I think he was friends with some of our family friends. Somehow we heard that Tiger was out playing on a nearby course [The Golden Bear Club at Keene’s Pointe], so another guy and I ran out there looking for him. it was a really quiet day. Tiger was playing a practice round all by himself.
We saw Tiger on the 16th hole and asked for his autograph, and he said to catch him right after the round. I was sitting about 100 yards from the 18th green, and he drove by in a cart and was pulling his hat really, really low. I remember him saying, “No autographs today.”
We’ve all been there. You grow up idolizing some ball player, actor, or musician, and you’re crushed to find out he or she is a complete dick in real life.
Still, it’s funny to think of little Johnny with his Scotty Cameron putter in hand, patiently waiting for Woods at the eighteenth, only to have Tiger blow by him in a golf cart mumbling “Not today, kid.”
Sounds like classic Tiger.
Feel free to share the worst interactions you’ve had with athletes in the comment section. Just let the pain out, gentlemen..

11 years ago at 1:31 pmSudden realization: Cleveland steamer, Cleveland Browns. Someone must think Cleveland is a shitty place to live.

11 years ago at 2:42 pmI went to see Buzz Aldrin at the PX on an Army post. There was a line of kids with toy rockets and printed out pictures of him. He wouldn’t sign any of these and the publicist said he was only signing the book that was being sold at the PX. One of the mothers went up to the front and said “This man went to the moon on the taxpayer dime and won’t sign a toy for a military dependent!” She walked out and Maoist of the people followed her.

11 years ago at 2:17 pmMy buddies and I saw Desean Jackson at the Tropicana in AC. He was walking through the Casino floor as we were heading to the Craps tables. We tried to just say hi and that we were eagles fans, but he and his entourage ignored us like a overpaid athlete would. A week later he was released and went to the Deadskins. Good riddance.

11 years ago at 1:30 pmI used to work in political fundraising, and Jets owner Woody Johnson was at all of our events (great guy btw). Often he’d bring presumably Republican leaning players. Personally, I am not a huge football fan (I know, I know), but my family are Jets fans, so I’d snag photos for my father. So one time Nick Mangold who is a fucking house of a human being comes in and I am greeting people. As he shakes my hand I mentioned “nice to meet you, I’m a huge Jets fan.” I’ve never seen someone look less impressed or enthusiastic in their life. He simply said, “Oh, great,” and walked on.

Funny, I think the same thing on most weekends.
11 years ago at 2:01 pmTried to get autographs during a practice round at Muirfield, and Jesper Parnevik’s caddy stiff armed me in the face.
11 years ago at 1:48 pmTiger didn’t sign there either.
I met Johnny on his Pro Day and asked to take a picture with him. He could not have been any cooler about it and took pictures with me and 2 friends. Glad he isn’t the same dick Tiger was

11 years ago at 5:32 pmI was driving through Austin a couple weeks ago and this dude backed into my car. I got out to see who it was and it was Dorn. I approached him and said calmly “dude you just hit my car!” And he was like “sorry, no autographs today!” And put his sunglasses back on and sped away.
