Baylor Hired A PR Firm To Beg Its Way Into The Playoffs

You know how purists will complain that something they used to love has “gone all corporate”? Well, usually those guys are morons who don’t really understand how the world works and they are nostalgic for something that never really existed, but in the case of Baylor’s attempts to get into the college football playoffs, they might be right. According to ESPN’s Jake Trotter, Baylor has enlisted the services of Kevin Sullivan Communications, a PR firm, to help make its case that the football team should be in the college postseason, an idea that’s just ludicrous to anyone who respects the purity of college football.

Now, obviously public relations have been a big part of sports for decades, but it’s typically been reserved for issues with branding and athlete conduct. However, this has to be the first time the sleazy world of PR has been dragged into an issue that should be entirely determined on the field. Despite beating TCU, Baylor has been consistently ranked lower than the Horned Frogs due to its loss to WVU. Butthurt Baylor fans point to their head-to-head victory over TCU and the fact that the Bears lost to Drunk Uncle Dana in Morgantown, which is supposedly a tough place to play, in spite of the fact that OU, TCU, and Kansas State all managed to win there this season. TCU argues its strength of schedule is better, and its only loss was to fourth-ranked Baylor rather than garbageville WVU.

Kevin Sullivan’s company hasn’t been contracted to reach out to the selection committee directly; I assume this is because that sounds like something that would be super illegal. The PR company has, however, been reaching out to national media. Here’s the cute form letter it’s been sending:

Does Baylor have a case here? Maybe. Personally, I just hope one of the teams loses in its final game so I don’t have to hear about it anymore. I’m not a big fan of either school to begin with, but Baylor stooping to the level of hiring a professional smooth talker to plead on its behalf to sports writers is just pathetic. If we’re all lucky, the football gods will see fit to have Baylor get thumped by Kansas State this weekend, and all will be just in the world.

Baylor is a private school under no obligation to share what it spends or on what. How in the hell did we let this get out?

Fuck Baylor, they talked shit for a whole week and then got raw dogged by the WVU Offense. Even though dumbass freshman rioted in the city after the win and threw TKE’s dumpster down frat row, it was still a quality win. No bid to Baylor in the playoffs.

It’s actually a step up considering their house at WVU is pretty much a multilevel trailer.

If you’re a “Delt”, you shouldn’t be talking about anyone’s house considering you lost yours to SAE.

Clearly your pledges didn’t follow the golden rule: Don’t talk about pledgeship. Deny, deny, counter accuse.

TCU deserves the spot. They won the games they were supposed to win, and if not for a miracle comeback by Baylor, they would be the indisputable champs of the Big 12. Baylor has been inconsistent, they don’t look like they are ready for the playoffs.

Inconsistent? TCU almost lost to Kansas. Baylor beat TCU head to head, they deserve the spot

That and Baylor almost lost to Texas Tech just last Saturday. TCU definitely deserves it more

And people forget TCU had Baylor stopped on 4th down at the end of the game, if not for a BS pass interference call the game woulda at least gone into overtime.

I remember thinking how shitty of a PI call that was given the circumstances. The announcers were going off on the ref after the call. TCU got robbed. Obviously anything could have happened in OT but it’s too bad the refs just handed Baylor the game in regulation. Not sure if the committee takes that kind of shit into consideration but I think it’s something worth considering.

They should have used this money to get real bricks for their stadium instead of a tarp

TCU beat a currently ranked out of conference team. Baylor did not. That is what will ultimately separate the two.

Won’t matter when Cardale lead us to a 3 score victory over Wisconsin. After all, he did come to Ohio State to play football.
