Chad Ochocinco Says He Wants To Coach The University Of Michigan

With Brady Hoke recently ousted from the helm of the Michigan Wolverines after what some would say was four seasons too long, university officials in Ann Arbor are left looking for his replacement–someone who will be the school’s third new head coach since 2008. While the list of potential candidates is made up mostly of current NFL head coaches who would surely be a difficult sell to transition back to the college game, Michigan also has the opportunity to double down on its two previous horrible coaching hires and bring on Chad Ochocinco, because he says he wants the job. I’m still not sure if he has actually legally changed his last name back to Johnson yet, so I’m going to run with the empowered wife hyphen for the rest of the article.

Ochocinco-Johnson tweeted this out:

An interesting option it would be for sure, and let’s be honest, is it really possible a character like Ochocinco-Johnson would let his team be worse than Rich Rodriguez’s 15-22 stint? The guy only won six Big Ten conference games in his three years at the school (with an abysmal .250 in-conference winning percentage) and if I know anything about number 85, he doesn’t settle for failure. Yeah, he might be playing for the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL right now, but so what? The dude was a shining star during his prime in the NFL, all while eating McDonald’s for each meal of the day.

Ochocinco-Johnson, who lacks any notable coaching experience on his résumé, later tweeted again to clarify his intentions with the Wolverines program. It seems as if he sees himself more fit for a position-coaching role:

If you’re in Michigan’s athletics department, you have to at least give him a shot, right? So what if he had some off the field problems in his day? The stories he tells about them will have recruits signing on the dotted line without even thinking twice. Seriously, what talented receiver or cornerback wouldn’t want to try to rebuild Michigan’s football legacy with the added bonus of Ocho as his coach? No one, that’s who.

Honestly, maybe this is Chad’s calling and he’ll wind up being the next Charles Woodson. Michigan would be trite not to at least engage his offer. Not only would the recruiting base bolster immediately if terms work out, but it’s virtually guaranteed the Wolverines will have the best coordinated touchdown celebrations in the country for years to come..
