Justin Timberlake Covered Garth Brooks’s “Friends In Low Places” And Brought Down The Fucking House

Man, Justin Timberlake always finds a way to get into cahoots with the coolest celebrities around. First, he becomes buddy-buddy with Jimmy Fallon and produces some of the funniest SNL skits in recent memory. Now he just shows up at Garth Brooks shows whenever he wants, sits in the second row, and then becomes best friends all over social media with the second highest-selling solo artist in U.S. history. For reference, the first is Elvis.

The Pop icon took in a Garth Brooks show in St. Louis on Thursday, December 4th. Timberlake reportedly had a great time too, sitting in the second row and singing and dancing along as he watched Brooks perform that evening.

Justin was thrilled to have been able to fit the concert into his busy schedule, since he had a show in Dallas on Wednesday and one the next day in Oklahoma City. After the concert that night, Timberlake posted the following picture of he and Brooks on his Instagram with the caption: “One of my IDOLS. Garth … You are a MASTER of your craft. I am in awe of you, still.”

Brooks showed his admiration and fired back with this tweet:

Not letting the tribute to one of his biggest idols end there, the next night at his show in Oklahoma City, J.T. pulled out all the stops and covered Brooks’ iconic “Friends In Low Places.” The crowd loved every second of it, and a great video of the rendition recently surfaced:

It’s great to see credit given when it’s due. There’s no disputing that Garth is one of the greatest to ever do it with an acoustic guitar around his neck and whiskey in his bloodstream, with a voice to make ‘em swoon all night long. Christ, the guy’s self-titled album went platinum 10 times over, and “No Fences,” which features both “Friends In Low Places” and “The Dance,” sold 17 million copies and still remains an incredibly seminal part of country music history.

It’s been no secret that Timberlake is a huge fan of Brooks, and it’s funny to think what other roads J.T. might’ve taken without the inspiration of Garth’s music as a kid. Admittedly, his favorite song, like a lot of you, I’m sure, is “The Dance.” But he could certainly get down with “Two Of A Kind” as a kid, too:

Yeah, it goes without saying that Timberlake won that competition just like he won the hearts of the OKC faithful with a killer cover of arguably the best country song of all time..
