Krispy Kreme Throws “KKK Wednesday” For The Kids

There was a big hole in Krispy Kreme’s latest marketing plan.

“KKK Wednesday” was intended to stand for “Krispy Kreme Klub Wednesday,” marking when the store would host a fun-filled day of activities for children. Most people took the acronym a different way entirely, but in the doughnut juggernaut’s defense, the Ku Klux Klan does participate in its fair share of arts and crafts.

Krispy Kreme UK has apologized for a promotion it referred to as “KKK Wednesday,” after a store in Hull, England, promoted the event on social media, prompting outcry.

“KKK” was the acronym for “Krispy Kreme Klub,” an activities group meant to occupy kids in the United Kingdom this week while they’re out of school on holiday, the Hull Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

We can’t blame the error on Britain not knowing who the Ku Klux Klan is — the hate group does, in fact, have a presence over there.

Even worse, the store claims that the idea came from higher-ups in the company, so this wasn’t a lapse in judgment from some cashier who decided to post something he or she thought was clever on the Facebook page.

A store spokeswoman told the paper the promotion came from Krispy Kreme’s head office, “so it has been advertised at all the outlets.”

“Doh!” said the chief executive officer of Krispy Kreme. “Nuts! I totally forgot about those guys.”

Meanwhile, Ku Klux Klanners are also wildly disappointed about the mixup. Many were looking forward to the prospect of discounted pastries, as well as the prospect of an all-white United Kingdom.

“I love doughnuts,” said one Klan member from Leeds. “Almost as much as I hate minorities.”.
