TKE At Cal State, Northridge Suspended For Hazing And Sexual Misconduct
Tau Kappa Epsilon is the third fraternity to be suspended at California State University, Northridge since the school halted all pledging activities last fall. This all started when 19-year-old Pi Kappa Phi pledge Armando Villa died during a fraternity hike, which led to Pi Kappa Phi being suspended forever.
The suspension of the TKE chapter will be in effect until July 20, 2018. Most of this stems from an investigation into a few hazing allegations from Fall 2013.

The alleged hazing at the retreat included having an active member duct tape two of the pledges back to back, forcing pledges to play charades and to leapfrog around the camp and to apparently chug from bottles of hard alcohol. Two pledges reportedly collapsed after being marched into the woods and had to be taken to camp, according to a pledge’s account detailed by CSUN’s activities coordinator in an Oct. 16, 2013, email to university officials.
It was also alleged from a secondhand source that active members held a party in honor of the new pledge class in September 2013 and forced pledges to drink, with one being forced to drink so much that he passed out and fell face down, cutting his head and upper lip, according to the same email account.
Forcing the pledges to drink is one thing, but causing physical harm to a pledge? That’s generally frowned upon. Being a former pledge educator, I have strong opinions on hazing in general. Putting someone’s life at risk is wildly irresponsible and obviously crosses the line. The charades and leapfrog incidents are very, very mild compared to what you might see in an MLB locker room.
The second incident that must have been the straw that broke the camel’s back pertained to rush boobs.
That allegedly involved a pledge being asked to take a photo of a female with TKE written across her bare breasts, but instead of complying the pledge reported the incident, Watkins said.
Moral of the story: Don’t put your pledges’ lives in danger or have them take rush boobs pictures — just take them yourself with a willing female that has expressed her desire to be involved..

Personally if I didn’t think a Pledge drank enough sure I would call him a “Pussy” or some other derogatory term. But not a single brother I know would EVER FORCE another to over drink. If being made fun of makes you drink more that’s on you. I’m sorry but this isn’t high school, no one should be so easily succumbed to peer pressure. I don’t want a push over as a brother. I want someone who is willing to be called a pussy but is respected for saying “I’m not drinking anymore” that’s the kind of man that should get a bid.
