These New NCAA Football Helmet Concept Designs Are Incredible
As the NFL scouting combine concludes today, it marks 66 days until the NFL Draft. There won’t be any competitive football played for another 191 days, when the NCAA season begins on the evening of Friday, Sept. 4, with several games. Technically, though, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, featuring the Louisville Cardinals and the Auburn Tigers, doesn’t take place until the following day, so we’ll call it 192 days until football resumes, because the Friday night match-ups are honestly less impressive than Jameis Winston’s 4.97-second 40 time.
Regardless, I think we can all agree, that many days is way too long to go without any football actually being played. Despite the fact that ESPN will air “NFL Live” literally every day until then attempting to fill the void, it just won’t be the same.
So, for the time being, we’re just left trying to find other ways to fill our football fix. Luckily, these NCAA helmet redesigns might just be enough for you to hold on to for now, along with some wishful thinking that maybe your alma mater will actually adapt one of these, because they’re awesome.
Coming courtesy of graphic designer Dylan Young, these hard hats would look excellent flying around NCAA football fields this fall. “Deeyung,” as he goes by, notes that the designs part of his “Fresh Football Helmets” collection certainly aren’t intended to replace helmets already donned by teams; rather, they’re just some inspiration for a third (or in Oregon’s case, like, 158th) uniform kit.
Here are some of the best designs I came across. It only feels right to lead off with the defending national champions and some of its Big Ten conference adversaries:
Ohio State Buckeyes
Penn State Nittany Lions
Michigan Wolverines
Maryland Terrapins
Wisconsin Badgers
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Minnesota Golden Gophers
The SEC is coming in hot as it usually does. Maybe these redesigns can take away the pain of heartbreak after faltering in the postseason. Then again, maybe not, but they’re impressive nonetheless.
Georgia Bulldogs
Texas A&M Aggies
Missouri Tigers
LSU Tigers
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Ole Miss Rebels
Kentucky Wildcats
Tennessee Volunteers
Alabama Crimson Tide
Arkansas Razorbacks
Florida Gators
They’re all really fresh, I know.
Deeyung created some pretty stellar designs for the Pac-12, too. Despite the conference already being known for having the most outlandish kits in the NCAA, he managed to find a way to improve upon some of them.
Oregon Ducks
California Golden Bears
USC Trojans
Arizona Wildcats
Washington Huskies
Hawaii Warriors
Oregon State Beavers
Arizona State Sun Devils
Stanford Cardinal
UCLA Bruins
No question these ACC mock-ups would definitely turn heads, too.
Florida State Seminoles
Miami Hurricanes
North Carolina Tar Heels
Duke Blue Devils
Boston College Eagles
Clemson Tigers
Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia Tech Hokies
Living up to its reputation, the Big 12 isn’t looking too shabby, either.
Oklahoma Sooners
Texas Longhorns
TCU Horned Frogs
Baylor Bears
Texas Tech Red Raiders
Iowa State Cyclones
West Virginia Mountaineers
Kansas Jayhawks
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Kansas State Wildcats
And who could argue that the service academies and classically independent Notre Dame are a bad way to round it out?
Army Black Knights
Navy Midshipmen
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Some quality stuff here, right guys? I was straight blown away by most of the designs I came across. It’s always cool to see how someone else envisions a concept, and these renderings pretty easily one-up most of the helmets we currently (as in, 192 days from now) see on the fields every Saturday. It would be awesome to see some of them inspire some real-life products, too. The designs seem to be an ongoing project, so be sure to check out Deeyung’s Instagram page to see if your team receives a feature if it hasn’t already. .

11 years ago at 4:40 pmAs a Georgia fan Id be pretty upset if we came out in those. Absolutely terrible
11 years ago at 4:44 pmEasily the worst one. Are the players supposed to look like bulldogs to complete the look? Atrocious.
11 years ago at 11:30 pmThe Ole Miss helmet wouldn’t be allowed, unfortunately. It contains the controversial Colonel Reb… That being said, I approve.
11 years ago at 4:50 pmUnfortunately, you are very correct and its a sad world we live in

11 years ago at 1:31 pmHalf of these are, quite simply put, retarded.
11 years ago at 5:08 pmCouldn’t agree more. For instance, I’m no alabama fan, but was the state’s outline really the best this guy could come up with?
11 years ago at 7:12 pmArizona State’s helmet…is just Arizona State’s helmet.
