Despite all the crap we give Bacon he did a good job and provided one of the best defenses against anti-fraternity media bull crap I’ve seen since this shitstorm started.
He should’ve made her refer to him as Bacon though.
It’s somewhat ironic that these people use the actions of a couple dipshits who happen to be fraternity members to attack the entire system. It’s like a racist claiming all blacks are bad because they know a black guy who got arrested. It’s fucking stupid in both situations yet one is acceptable.
That’s where the problem lies. The liberal media spins it into a mob mentality against the whole system because that’s what the simple minded masses want to hear and that’s how HLN maintains its viewership.
If we take her logic and use it in, let’s say, journalism, Brian Williams lied about a ton of stories he covered. Brian Williams is a journalist. Using the logic of how the news outlets are covering this story, all journalists lie and exaggerate the truth on a ton of the stories they cover. They place over-lining generalities on a few bad eggs, instead of holding the individual accountable for the actions. I’m not defending what the SAE’s did at all, but to go out and say “Greek Life should be shut down because of this incident” is such a shitty way to approach this.
P.S. Bacon, you look like you’re 12 in this video. But in all seriousness, a job well done. Way to call that lady out on the double-standard of Greek Life and accountability.
No one watching this kind of news story wants to here legitimate discussion. They want the news to tell them what they have already decided for themselves. If you already know the truth and context of the situation you’re not likely to follow the story with bated breath. She didn’t have a legitimate rebuttal to Bacon so she basically just says “yeah, well you’re wrong.” and ends the discussion.
I hate to tag off the top comment but I want to make a point about the double standard Bacon is talking about… if you type in “Oklahoma” on Google right now, 90% of the whole page of results is about this racism. Notice that I typed the whole state in. With that in mind, if you type in “Miami” you will see not a single result about the man who went to a Jewish congregation and shouted “Allah Akbar” at least twice, and threatened that “We will cut your heads off.” which is a real threat of death against a minority instead of a couple juvenile fraternity members chanting a song.
Same thing happened at UC Davis a couple weeks ago, too, if you’re looking for a college related example. Nobody was expelled, nobody was punished. It wasn’t worthy enough to garner the attention of countless hours of news media and front page stories.
This is a brilliant point. I guarantee that a Palestinian student saying death to Isreal would not be expelled from campus. White Fraternity members have no protection and will always be vilified regardless of the benefits we provide in our local communities.
Why are they trying to pigeon hold racism to fraternities. No one heard of Ferguson? Or jee I don’t fucking know general racism pretty sure Fraternities didn’t prompt the coining of Driving While Black and other racist shit.
It’s wrong to say that all black people at like crips and wrong to say all Islamic people are ISIS members. I 100% agree with this ideal but I don’t understand why it’s fine to assume we are all a bunch of racists and women druggers
I didn’t. I told them I was an alumnus multiple times. My guess is they either misinterpreted me also saying that I was a member of a fraternity (which, I am) as me saying I was an active member, or, they just used the word “active” in a different way than we do.
In the words of 30 Rock, “It’s a 24-hour news cycle here, Jack. We really don’t have time to do it right anymore.”
Well done, Bacon. I don’t think they misinterpreted what you said, I think that is how they wanted to present you. Total bullshit that they portrayed you as an “active Greek” at Missouri. I mean, you and doofus hipster guy essentially have the same jobs, except he does his for a different audience. Did you not tell them what you do for a living? How did they find you? I think they chose to overlook it. I also agree with you that they should have gotten more commentary from the KAPsi President, but I am thinking the moderator was hoping he’d come on hot like Eric Striker and then decided their was no entertainment value in him as a commentator and moved on.
Of all people to represent your brand, you chose Bacon?

11 years ago at 3:24 pmUpped your comment before I even read it. Go Vols.
11 years ago at 2:04 amWhy did they say you are an active fraternity member? You’re like 30. Either way you made some great points and represented greeks pretty well.
11 years ago at 3:32 pmI didn’t. I told them I was an alumnus multiple times. My guess is they either misinterpreted me also saying that I was a member of a fraternity (which, I am) as me saying I was an active member, or, they just used the word “active” in a different way than we do.

11 years ago at 3:48 pmWhat fraternity were you in, or would you rather not say? Also yeah, you did a very good job in the face of an obviously biased, “journalist.”
