Investigation Finds No Evidence Of Alleged Rape At UVA
After a thorough investigation with over 70 interviews, police released a statement Monday that revealed they found “no substantive basis” supporting the accusations made in a November Rolling Stone article depicting a horrific gang rape that allegedly occurred inside the Phi Kappa Psi house.
From The New York Times:
Police Chief Timothy J. Longo Sr. said at a crowded news conference here, his investigators found “no evidence” that a party even took place at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity on Sept. 28, 2012, when the rape was said to have occurred. Instead, he said, there was a formal that night at the house’s sister sorority, making it highly unlikely that the fraternity would have had a party on the same night.
Despite “numerous attempts,” he said, his officers were unable to track down the man Jackie had identified as her date that night. And several interviews contradicted her version of events. The chief said he was suspending, but not closing, the investigation, and he left open the possibility that some kind of assault might have occurred, saying additional information could still come to light.
“We’re not able to conclude to any substantive degree that an incident occurred at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house, or any other fraternity house, for that matter,” Chief Longo said. “That doesn’t mean something terrible didn’t happen to Jackie on the evening of Sept. 28, 2012. We’re just not able to gather sufficient facts to determine what that is.”
Phi Kappa Psi has expressed that it is now exploring legal options to pursue against Rolling Stone for the extensive damage inflicted by this shoddy reporting clusterfuck, and rightfully so. Greek life was shut down, houses were vandalized, and the reputations of the fraternity, as well as UVA, as a whole, were severely damaged.
Get out your checkbook, Rolling Stone..

Reveal the accuser, if only to discourage others who think it’s fine to falsely accuse people of rape.
11 years ago at 11:20 amIt should be a federal felony to falsely accuse someone of rape with a minimum 5 year sentence.
11 years ago at 11:27 amIt is a federal felony, punishable by up to 5 years. 18 USC 1001(a) – https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1001
11 years ago at 4:19 pmGood luck finding an AUSA to prosecute a rape victim, even if the crime is made up. The PR nightmare isn’t worth it.
it’s complete bullshit that someone can falsely accuse a person, let alone an entire chapter, of rape and suffer no consequences. the falsely accused deserve justice
11 years ago at 12:07 pmCounter-suiting for slander is a thing
11 years ago at 1:10 pmSomeone should also sue them for ripping off the plot of The Accused with Jodie Foster. Lazy bastards couldn’t even come up with an original story
11 years ago at 1:24 pmI posted something awhile back about a Washington Post article that examined the reasons why the fraternity would be unwise to sue either Rolling Stone, UVA, or the accuser. Basically it would hurt the individuals involved more than either of these 3 groups because it would ruin these kids lives if their names were connected to the story (which the media did not release). Also its Libel not Slander they would sue for.
11 years ago at 8:58 pmGentlemen, if I may say, I do slightly disagree. We need to tweak the wording a little. It needs to be a felony if the person KNOWINGLY falsely accuses or changes his/her story over the course of this investigation to attempt to trap the defendant, as the lady in this case did, so I agree that she needs to be charged. This is a slippery slope, because if we start charging those who are unable to prove they were raped, since a lady or man could genuinely think they’ve been raped based off their knowledge of what occurred, and the investigation/trial could prove the defendant innocent, so in a nutshell it was a tragic misunderstanding, we run the risk of causing people to fear coming forward about being sexually assaulted or raped. I think I understand your meaning, and I applaud it, but if/when we put it into legislation, we have to get the crime terminology hammered out correctly.
11 years ago at 1:24 pmJackie Coakley was confirmed as the accuser, and this wasn’t the first time she falsely accused someone of raping her.
11 years ago at 2:41 pmThe police chief, Timothy Longo, made it clear Jackie Coakley would absolutely NOT face charges in regards to this matter…. How the fuck is that the case?
11 years ago at 5:24 pmBecause it will be a civil suit, not a criminal one.
11 years ago at 8:39 pmJacqueline Coakley of Stafford, VA.
11 years ago at 5:21 pmSluts.
11 years ago at 11:21 amShut up, Meg.
11 years ago at 11:26 amDo you ever think about changing your name since everyone always tells you to shut up
11 years ago at 12:00 pmI speak for many when I say I hope that justice is rightly served to Rolling Stone and the other media outlets trying to crucify this chapter and fraternities as a whole. Rape is a horrible thing, but if you concoct a farcical media storm based off of no evidence besides general stigmas that men are rapists, then you do a disservice to all victims of sexual assault and society as a whole. Kindly fuck your own faces, Rolling Stone. Have a most pleasant day.
11 years ago at 11:22 amThis is brilliant, and they say fraternity members are less likely to graduate due to being in a fraternity.
11 years ago at 11:55 amNormally I’d just say I’m not mad.. just disappointed but come on rolling stone and social media, get your shit together
11 years ago at 11:22 amAre you really asking ‘social media’ to get its shit together? That’s like asking Obama to actually place a terrorist in Guantanamo instead of releasing them.
11 years ago at 12:04 pmI really hope they sue the living piss out of the accuser, the school, and rolling stone. A dick slap to the face would be a nice touch as well.
11 years ago at 11:24 amExactly. This is all bullshit and gives Greeks an awful name…
11 years ago at 12:15 pm$100 says major media doesn’t even mention this and only focuses on other negative events happening nationwide. Hard to sell papers when you’re actually reporting the facts and not sensationalism
11 years ago at 11:26 amFoxnews did but the left wing commies sure won’t.
11 years ago at 11:29 amLast night on nbc they said something about it for 15 seconds. Then switched the story
11 years ago at 12:02 pmThey also called the story a stunning development. Typical liberals.
11 years ago at 12:16 pmNo it was a sentence. Then they said “in other news, the university of Virginia police department is under investigation for extreme use of force while subduing an African American student” turns out the student was not listening to them and getting physical with the police. Also they ran that story in attempt to save their own ass after blowing this shitstorm out of proportion. Basically saying well uva may not have gang raped the girl but their police are racist. Fuck liberals
11 years ago at 5:05 pmThey always do this shit. The media devoted a year of coverage to the Duke Lacrosse rape allegation, and about a day to the revelation that it was all made up.
11 years ago at 1:44 pmAnd “Jackie” gets off scat free while leaving a trail of potentially ruined lives – up to, and including throwing her own friends under the bus all to gain attention… Funny how things work out for the accuser while a shadow is permanently cast of the accused. Shame on Rolling Stone, UVa’s president, and the media who jumped to the conclusion. Kudos to the Washington Post for not being blindly led like the rest of the media and social justice warriors. Hopefully the lives of the people accused can return to some form of normal. Fuck you, “Jackie” you lying, coward.
11 years ago at 11:31 amIf you head over to other “Millennial,” targeted blogs and sites like Buzzfeed or Gawker, the comments sections are filled with feminists saying this is no way proves that Phi Psi didn’t gang rape this chick. These women are unable to deal with the fact that Jackie lied. The refuse to accept it. The cognitive dissonance is unreal. Feminism is the McCarthyism of our time. And like other great moral panics, logic has gone right out the window.
11 years ago at 11:49 amFinely worded, well put.
11 years ago at 12:04 pmOnly difference being that McCarthy was right about Communists and the feminazis get things wrong about a good number of things
11 years ago at 12:09 pmThis is a win for Greek life everywhere
11 years ago at 11:56 amI wouldn’t call it a win. The captain said they found no evidence that anything happened, but that doesn’t mean nothing happened that night. I interpret that to mean they still believe something happened to Jackie, they just can’t find the proof… yet, which is why they didn’t close the investigation.
11 years ago at 12:01 pmNah he was just trying to be politically correct. I mean Haven Monohan wasn’t even real. Feminist are now perverting his words saying. “Well they can’t prove nothing happened either.”
11 years ago at 12:25 pmThat’s an issue the department needs to deal with on their own. They shouldn’t be using the chapter as a scapegoat for this fucked up bullshit of a situation.
11 years ago at 1:23 pmI find it incredibly sickening that the majority of “news” outlets do not even care that they ruined the lives of the gentlemen in Phi Kappa Psi. #FratLivesMatter
