A Sigma Nu brother from the University of Iowa has died after suffering injuries from a fall in Rome during his semester abroad earlier this year.

Andrew Mogni, a 20-year-old from suburban Glen Ellyn, Il., died on Sunday morning at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He had been moved there after coming back to the United States, according to the University of Iowa campus newspaper. The fraternity recently created GoFundMe pages for Mogni and Rodric Jackson, a brother who recently withdrew from school to seek treatment for brain cancer.

From the Chicago Tribune:

The injuries occurred shortly after he arrived for a semesterlong program at John Cabot University in Trastevere, an administrative district in Italy’s capital city.

Mogni’s family and a university administrator traveled to Rome, where Mogni initially received medical care.

A medical team cleared Mogni on March 20 to travel back to the Chicago area, according to the University of Iowa statement.

Our prayers go out to the friends and family of Andrew Mogni.

That’s double heartbreaking with both of those issues in the same chapter. I can’t imagine.

Mogni’s are family friends of ours. News published it as a “freak accident”. He was actually mugged by a group of cowards and then thrown off a 40 ft bridge. Fought through it for weeks and survived a few surgeries. RIP Andrew, those cowards will burn.
