Jon Lester Can't Throw To First, But He Can Take Down Twitter Trolls

This offseason, Jon Lester signed a $155M contract to play in Chicago with the Cubs. If the Cubs were smart, they would have made a portion of that a “throwing to first” incentive because, well, Lester isn’t good at it. Like, at all. He’s so bad at it that he owns it and just lets runners go on him. Up until Monday night, he hadn’t attempted a pickoff attempt since April 30th, 2013. I guess his new digs gave him some false confidence on Monday.

With a man on first in the bottom of the 2nd, Lester tossed one over to first. It produced this gem:

After a throw like that, the trolls of Twitter went to work on Lester’s psyche. Just as cool, calm, and collected as he was throwing his no-hitter, he responded to some of them.

While Sam brings up a valid point, Lester still comes out with the upper hand.

Classic Red Sox fan not knowing proper grammar. Jon has your back, though.

Stick to throwing to home and belittling trolls, Jon. You’ll live a much happier life.

It is really childish that he responds though. Twitter people are always ruthless and in this case, they’re not wrong. The dude can’t pitch with runners on at the moment and it’s a big problem. I mean, maybe not that big, cuz you know, we’re in first place as expected.

Cubs haven’t won a World Series in 107 years and because they’re in first place 8 games into the season, you decide to pop off? I give it 3 weeks at best before they’re back to their comfort zone of 3-5 in the division.

Yeah things are really gonna head south when we add Kris Bryant to the roster… At this point in the season last year, only Castro, Rizzo, Travis Wood, and Jason Hammel remain in their staring role. Literally everyone else is new, so why do you expect us to settle into the bottom of the division again?

Oh I don’t know… 100 some odd years of history that support my statement… You act like one player is going to springboard the Cubs into the pennant race. How’d that work for the Nationals with Harper or the Angels with Trout? Will the Cubs be players in the NL in a year or two? Maybe. But you gotta prove something to earn people’s respect first.

Did you miss the part when I pointed out that only 4 of 13 players including the rotation remain starters on this year’s team? It’s not just the new face of Kris Bryant, it’s damn near the entire roster. Why will THIS team replicate last year’s performance and the performance of Cubs teams 100+ years ago? Red Sox have gone worst to first and so have the Giants. Hell, the Red Sox have a good shot at going worst to first again this year. When personnel changes, performance follows suit.

Then people should know that baseball is “America’s Pastime” not “Americas’s Past Time.” That doesn’t even make sense.
