Florida State SAE Initiates Father Of Late Brother
It’s always refreshing to hear about fraternities doing good things. In today’s feel good news, the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Florida State University honor the family of a former chapter president.
William “Alex” McDonald served as the chapter president in 2012. Unfortunately, on the night before Thanksgiving that very year, a drunk driver struck and killed him as he was walking home. Since his death, the fraternity has adopted William’s father, William “Skip” McDonald, as the chapter dad. Our source said that the fraternity meant everything to Alex, so I can imagine that his father took it to heart that the brothers also welcomed him with open arms to be their chapter dad. Skip and the rest of the McDonald family have made a huge impact on the young gentlemen being molded, so the fraternity wanted to do something special for them.
Since Skip was not affiliated, the chapter went to nationals and asked for permission to initiate him into the fraternity. The fraternity had no qualms about the request. On April 21, 2015, nearly three years after the tragic death of Alex, the two men can now be called brothers of SAE. A family bond that truly cannot be broken..
