University Of Washington GDIs Are Planning An Occupy Greek Row Event
On Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 PDT, a group of GDIs at the University of Washington are going to “occupy Greek Row” because they believe Greeks are bigots, gay haters, and fat shamers. Seems pretty sketchy to me. The troops are rallying in a Facebook event, and the description made me laugh.
Here is the description:
To the Rebels & Rejects of Society:
Greek Row has been a place where too many of us have been shut out of for too long. We have been told we are too fat, too dark skinned, not able-bodied and don’t fit the model.
The frats have repeatedly attacked us. Both physically and verbally, they have said black lives don’t matter, they have raped us and then called us sluts & liars, they have trashed trans people making fun of them at fashion shows, they have physically attacked black woman. They tell us it is not all- but it is too many. It is time they are held accountable for these actions.
On this night we will take over and claim space on Greek Row, we will give ourselves access to this space. On this night we will center black lives, queer lives and differently abled/ disabled lives, and we will check their privilege.
To make this space accessible as possible we ask that you are scent free
First off, every fraternity has fat dudes. They are often heralded members and the life of the party. We welcome them with really wide open arms, so that argument goes right out the window. That second paragraph seems a little far-fetched to me. I used to be an avid reader of fiction books as a kid, and this looks like one of them.
Read through the comments if you want a good laugh and a glimpse into the batshit crazy mind of UWash students. Here are just a few of the gems you’ll find in the comments:
Big ups to the dude questioning what self-respecting fraternity man would go to a fashion show. My guess is that these people didn’t see the failures that Occupy Wall Street had, but hey let them try their darndest to get under our skin with a little protest. It’s cute. Apparently, IFC and Panhellenic organizations are hosting an event in a response to this event where people can voice their concerns on Greek life.
They hate us ’cause they ain’t us..

Fuckin liberals, man
10 years ago at 11:00 amIf one paints the image to the public they are weak and require any special treatment then that just solidifies their weakness.
10 years ago at 11:00 amThis seems like the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the house water balloon launcher.
10 years ago at 11:10 amI believe in a less direct approach, due to the ease in which these…reputable protesters would be able to say “Greeks attacked them.” Instead, Teddy proposes this: Most Greek houses, at least here at Mississippi State, use irrigation systems. Now, ol’ Teddy used to work on irrigation systems with his father, and the sprinkler head trajectory can be adjusted in any direction. Some nozzles can shoot streams well over forty feet. So I say every house gets together, adjusts the heads to face the street, and set the timers to come on at 8:00 PDT. Amazing how people, paint, and cardboard signs projecting bigoted messages protesting bigotry can fall apart under cold, constant water.
10 years ago at 11:47 amTeddy, I always was a fan of your “speak softly, and carry a big stick” ideology.
10 years ago at 12:26 pmTeddy, I love the idea but we don’t have sprinkler systems here. It’s usually too wet for a sprinkler to be useful and half of the houses don’t have a lawn anyway.
10 years ago at 3:27 pmPray the rain keep coming through Saturday?
10 years ago at 6:08 pmBetter yet, build a moat around the property. We all know that most of the occupiers can’t swim…
10 years ago at 9:39 pmWater won’t be only thing that’ll be filling up those balloons either.
10 years ago at 6:41 pmWell it’s not like they have jobs so what else would they do?
10 years ago at 11:10 amLooks like someone didn’t get a bid
10 years ago at 11:11 amSo what are they going to do? Just stand in the street on Greek row? I’m not too familiar with how these occupy protests go, but seems like a great day to down some beers on your porch/roof and enjoy the show…
10 years ago at 11:13 amThe event description says, “on this night we will take over and claim space on Greek Row, we will give ourselves access to this space.” Not quite sure what “space” they think they can manage to take over, but it will be interesting to watch them nonetheless. Hopefully the weather is nice so we can couch it while being provided some free entertainment. I’ll make sure to update everyone, assuming we don’t end up on national news that is.
10 years ago at 10:57 pmI didn’t think we would need an update this soon, but here is a quote from the event creator… “This event will be censored. The privileged already have their voices heard.” This is in context to a guy who said the page was being censored to what the greeks had to say. This chick is literally deleting common sense arguments from her page so her argument is better supported
10 years ago at 11:17 pmThis is dumb. That’s really all there is to be said.
10 years ago at 11:15 amMaybe if they got jobs instead of protesting we wouldn’t be spending so much taxpayer money on foodstamps
10 years ago at 11:16 amTake it easy slick
10 years ago at 11:21 amThis is why we can’t have nice things
10 years ago at 11:36 amThey took our jobs
10 years ago at 12:02 pmExcept, they didn’t
10 years ago at 12:37 pmI don’t know why you’re getting lapped down. The people protesting are the same welfare bums that waste taxpayers’ money.
10 years ago at 6:39 pmWhomever thought of “scent free” in order to make space “accessible” has obviously never been near or in a fraternity house. Scents should be the least of their concerns.
10 years ago at 11:20 amHippies and admitted rejects camping in the summer heat may be up to the challenge.
