Depending on the model of AR-15, you physically can’t put it on safety unless theres a round in the chamber and the BCG is charged- there is a mechanical block that prevents it.

Yeah, lacin’ up. Dumb mistake on my part, I always forget most AR’s can’t be put on safety unless there’s no magazine fed in or the hammer is locked to the rear.
