Sharks Won’t Stop Attacking Humans On The North Carolina Coast

I’m not one to peddle shark torture porn, but as a North Carolina native, this story is slightly terrifying.
Two people, in two separate incidents on an Oak Island beach in southeastern North Carolina, were seriously injured by shark attacks in a matter of a few hours. One girl lost part of her arm and potentially her left leg. The injuries of the boy who was attacked haven’t been made public. Both kids were only in waist-deep water 20 yards offshore when they were bitten.
Here is a professional simulation of what happened on Oak Island yesterday:
From the Charlotte Observer:
Officials say two young people who lost limbs in separate shark attacks in coastal North Carolina this weekend were in waist-deep water about 20 yards offshore when they were attacked.
Officials said Monday that Sunday’s attacks happened less than 90 minutes apart.
The call about a 12-year-old girl came in about 4:40 p.m. The call about a 16-year-old boy attacked about two miles away came in at 5:51 p.m.
The girl lost part of her arm and suffered a leg injury. The boy lost his left arm. Their names haven’t been released. Officials say both were on vacation from other parts of North Carolina.
Officials said they couldn’t confirm whether the same shark attacked them or give details on the size of the animal or animals.
Officials credited life-saving efforts by beach bystanders. Both victims were airlifted to a Wilmington hospital on Sunday night with life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery.
Here are some suspect sharks from the Carolina coast that have gone viral the past few years. We can’t rule any of them out:
Everybody gives me shit for not liking the ocean, but now you can see why. You are nothing but helpless shark-bait out there, just waiting to be eaten. I don’t mind swimming in pools, rivers or lakes, but fuck the ocean. It’s horrifying.
The shark versus human war is beginning, and the sharks are winning..

I’m reserving judgment until I hear SharkWeekTFM’s side of the story. #YesAllSharks
10 years ago at 9:40 amThis is why I’m here (besides having a sincere desire to frat). I will never defend a shark attack or its perpetrator. They suck and are no joke. These kids’ lives are forever changed. What’s my job is to address the principle of the thing and its analogs to the rest of the world and indeed (if not especially) fraternities.
“Can’t stop attacking people,” that’s kinda like how fraternities “Can’t stop killing pledges and raping women.” It’s the very generalizing media sensationalism we claim to hate when brought against us.
There are different houses, chapters, and members just like there are different species, effects of location, and individuals. As we know, if one guy or small group of guys fucks up all of a sudden it’s the whole of Greek life that is to blame. So is it with sharks.
You can look forward to more poor decisions made by sharks, though fictional and entertaining, in the upcoming Shark Romance Novel and other works by yours truly.
10 years ago at 11:12 amAgain, I like where your heart is at but #yesallsharks doesn’t make any sense to me but feel free to explain if I’m not getting it.
10 years ago at 11:16 amIt should be #notallsharks are attackers, evil, rap artists, etc. just like #notallmen are rapists.
I fucking love this guy

10 years ago at 9:56 amYeah I mean it’s not like us Fraternity guys never rent out beach houses and take a vacation to the beach during the summer.

10 years ago at 10:57 amYou can spit any statistic about how “Did you know Zucchinis kill 20x more people a year than sharks?” and I’ll still be scared of them. Fuck that.
10 years ago at 10:01 amThe girl that was bitten lost her left hand and part of her arm, might lose her left leg after surgery; the boy lost his left arm.
10 years ago at 10:16 amWhat I don’t understand is after the one girl was bitten on oak island why the fuck would anyone else swim in the water for at least the rest of the day?!?! Yet why would people even be allowed to? I feel horrible for the kid to be attacked but why in the world would you swim again after that and also sharks feed early mornings and late nights.

10 years ago at 12:27 pmI live off the Carolina coast and when I was surfing one time a shark brushed my leg. I have never paddled so hard in my life to get back on land. Every time my hand hit the water I thought it was going to get bitten. One of the scariest moments of my life.
