University Of Texas To Keep Fans Drunk While Football Team Struggles

Lotta ^this going on at DKR these days while the football team futilely looks for answers. Five consecutive seasons of an awful-to-subpar brand of University of Texas football has fans disheartened, apathetic (me), and just plain pissed off. Several swings and misses on the quarterback recruiting front have kept expectations for the 2015 Longhorns relatively low once again.

The UT officials’ solution: Get the fans hammered. Maybe they won’t care as much?

A couple weeks ago, we brought you the story of the state of Texas signing off on the campus carry law, allowing guns on all public university campuses (not in football stadiums, however, one would assume). And now beer will be served at football games inside Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium. It’s like the Wild West in Austin.

From 247 Sports:

The University of Texas at Austin has approved the sale of beer at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium for the 2015 season, two University sources told Horns247.

No further hurdles remain for either the administration or athletic department with alcohol sales at DKR.

Texas began selling beer at other athletic events, including basketball, baseball and softball, in 2014, but had not previously approved a plan for football games. Initially, the University had used the sale of alcohol at the other events as a smaller-scale case study to determine its effect at sporting events on campus.

For anyone familiar with the game day atmosphere in Austin, this ruling couldn’t come soon enough. It’s like a football game broke out during an open-casket funeral in there. Gray hairs fill the prime seats, it’s eerily quiet, people expect you to stay seated — just shameful.

Let Daddy catch a BAC already.

Why not just sell Everclear for $1 shots and make the 2015 season the “Lost Year” of football in Austin.

As much as I love the great American combo of beer & football, we should have to earn beer sales with at least a 10 win season. With the current state of the program & throwing beer sales into the mix, if were not careful we could end up like Texas Tech. But what the hell do I know
