Former Raiders QB Ken Stabler Allegedly Planted Coke On A Hated Sports Writer As A Prank

You don’t get the nickname “Snake” by being a model citizen.

The passing of former Oakland Raiders quarterback Ken “Snake” Stabler, 69, has once again brought to light some crazy stories from his checkered past.

Amongst those stories lies this gem from Deadspin: Stabler (probably) had cocaine planted on a sports writer he hated, Bob Padecky from Sacramento, and played it off as a prank.

Padecky was one of his least favorite writers, yet was invited to Stabler’s hometown for an exclusive interview. Coke was planted under the fender of his rented car and police were tipped off.

Padecky was arrested, but only spent five minutes in jail as it was pretty clear he was set up. Stabler never admitted to it either, saying maybe it was one of his friends or something, and no one was ever charged.

But does this really look like a guy you’d wanna fuck with?

I didn’t think so.

It’s a shame he doesn’t get his due simply because of people hating on the Raiders. Champion in the field, Legend off of it.

Yeah, blame the shitty Hall of Fame voting process for him not being in. Most of the people involved in the voting aren’t even in sports media/aren’t relatable today.

Damn fine quarterback. Stabler, along with other football players (Ray Nitchke, Gale Sayers, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, etc.) from the late 60s to the early 80s really molded professional football to what it is today. Played the game tough and lived life even tougher. Rest in Peace, Snake.
