UCF Sigma Nu Found “Not In Violation” Of Sexual Misconduct After Brother’s “Let’s Rape Some Bitches” Rant

Sunday, we reported that Sigma Nu at the University of Central Florida was put on emergency suspension after school officials obtained a video of a brother repeatedly screaming “Let’s rape some bitches, rape some sluts!” after returning home from a night out drinking back in June. Two days later, information leaked that the man shouting the obscenities was the same member “Found in Violation” by the university in a sexual assault case dating back to last October. This all came to a head, yesterday, when a disciplinary panel found the fraternity “Not in Violation” of sexual misconduct.

Here’s an excerpt from the UCF Hearing Panel report:

The charged organization, Sigma Nu, pled “Not in Violation” to the Organizational Rule of Conduct charge, Sexual Misconduct (5f). The panel finds the organization, Sigma Nu, “Not in Violation”.

Members of Sigma Nu and others returned from Knights Pub to an apartment unofficially affiliated with Sigma Nu on June 9, 2015 at approximately 2:00 AM. One member in particular, identified by multiple witnesses as [name redacted] was inebriated and venting, making inappropriate remarks related to sexual misconduct (“Rape some sluts” and “rape” repeatedly). The panel believes the incident to be the act of one individual and not a group act, wherein sexual misconduct was condoned. In the recordings and in witness testimonies, it is evident that fraternity members present did attempt to calm down [name redacted], attempting to dissuade him from making inappropriate remarks. We found insufficient information to suggest that Sigma Nu as a fraternity is responsible for the remarks made by an individual.

Brad Beacham, the Fraternity Executive Director of Sigma Nu, released the following statement after the verdict:

“The decision of the UCF Hearing Panel is consistent with the findings of the Fraternity’s investigation. The reprehensible comments on the recordings were made by an individual and are the responsibility of that individual. The Mu Psi Chapter and fraternity have strongly condemned the comments, and, upon learning of them, took action to immediately suspend the individual responsible, pending further proceedings. The fraternity will continue to work closely with UCF in support of the Mu Psi chapter and its student members.”

The sad thing is I was actually shocked. Expected a suspension for the fraternity at least based on prior cases where one person does something wrong and the entire fraternity is fucked.

You mean to tell me that the actions of an individual don’t necessarily represent the actions of an organization? Well, fuck.

Holy shit, an issue with Greek life was actually handled sensibly by a university?

Unfortunately the university reserves the right to retry them again under different circumstances. When asked about double jeopardy they said its UCF’s discretion. Still not out of the woods yet but still a victory for Greeks

But fuck the kid who said that shit, you are still a low life scum but I’m glad your organization doesn’t have to suffer for you

Is this TFM’s subtle way of reminding us we should hold the actions of Steve Holt against organization overall?

Why not wait until the ruling before posting this shit and tarnishing their name?

We’re still in the good ole USA: Innocent until proven guilty

It’s all over the internet. Would you rather us not cover a fraternity related story that’s national news?

Kudos to the university for making the proper decision, and to the brothers of the individual for not encouraging, but rather, trying to halt his behavior. Continuing doing good, gentlemen.

I’m pretty sure the overhyping media has a lot more than 0 points for example the “gray rape” incident

Finally punishing the individual who committed the act and not the entire group. Maybe this will set a precedent for the future
