A Couple Republican Campaign Workers Bar Brawl On Island In Northern Michigan
While Marco Rubio and Rand Paul are out battling on the campaign grounds, it sounds like some of the campaign workers are battling it out themselves. Last night at a bar on Mackinac Island, which is a small resort island in Northern Michigan, John Yob, who works for Paul, claims that Rich Beeson, Rubio’s campaign manager, clocked him right in the face.
From The Detroit Free Press:
A huge Republican political gathering on Mackinac Island got under way Thursday night with a barroom incident in which a top official for presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio allegedly threw a punch at a Michigan consultant working for Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.
The alleged incident took place at Horn’s Bar, a popular nightspot on Mackinac Island, which hosts the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, which is held every other year and has drawn six GOP presidential hopefuls this year.
At first, you might be wondering why a bunch of Republicans are hanging around Michigan. I was too, so I did a little research on Mackinac Island by asking our resident Michigan PGP writer, Will DeFries, what the scene is like. From what he told me, this place is awesome. First of all, they don’t allow cars on the island, only horses, so you know it’s a place for the elite. He even went as far to call it the “Vegas of the North.”
Will even gave me some pics he took during his last go-around in the Mack.
As you can see, life in Mackinac comes at you fast and hard. If you aren’t prepared, you’re going to get hit. Yob found this out the hard way and took to his Facebook account to give his firsthand experience of what exactly went down.
“I ran into a guy named Rich Beeson, who frankly I didn’t even know who it was at first because he isn’t relevant in our political world,” Yob said. “He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face. The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles. This will play out in the national media in the next few hours.”
An officer at the Mackinac Island Police Department early Friday would neither confirm nor deny that the incident took place. He said there would be no comment until the chief of police arrives at the station later this morning. Beeson did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
How about Yob just coming out firing by calling Rubio’s campaign manager irrelevant? All I gotta say is this: talk shit, get hit, John..

Get to fail Friday
10 years ago at 10:45 amI can tell you as someone who has gone to Mackinac Island on a handful of times. The Island is a good time, especially in the summer when a lot of UM MSU CMU kids go to Mackinac Island for a summer job. Also drugs are a dime a dozen on the island. Whatever you wana get you can.
10 years ago at 10:46 amI prefer Put-In-Bay island in Ohio, but Mackinac is still a great time
10 years ago at 11:24 amThe Grand Hotel has hosted 5 presidents as well as Vladimir Putin, Thomas Edison to name a few. Have fun in Ohio where you can’t go faster than 65
10 years ago at 11:32 amYou can go 70 on the highway in Ohio
10 years ago at 12:33 pmwoah, hey nice avatar, man. weed!
10 years ago at 1:11 pmWell Put-In-Bay is an island dedicated to bars/clubs, but I’m sure your hotel is a fun time.
10 years ago at 1:20 pmOh that’s sweet our island still has bars too and fun fact. You guys would’ve had it and the whole UP but nope you wanted the Toledo strip.
10 years ago at 2:09 pmThey act like this will hurt our man Marco. If anything it will make him more approachable and human. A drunk, offended guy punching someone else in the face? We’ve all been there. It shows the people behind the campaign will stand up for themselves, unlike every other spineless politician running
10 years ago at 10:49 amI take this back. He threw the weakest punch I’ve ever seen and because of that should be fired
10 years ago at 11:33 amTotally.
10 years ago at 11:36 amIf democrats got in a fight with one another they would have sissy slapped each other once or twice, start crying, and then go write in their blogs that slapping is bigoted and should be banned.
10 years ago at 11:10 amStand with Rand
10 years ago at 11:20 amSomehow this will be spun by the media into being my fault. And then I’ll gain in the polls some more
10 years ago at 11:37 amThe Chief of police showing up to work late on Fridays. TFM.
10 years ago at 12:47 pmBoy named sue?
10 years ago at 2:00 pmWorkers for Rubio and Rand Paul fighting is like the Fat Kid and the Autistic kid in your 4th grade class fighting at recess. It’s interesting, but you’re hoping the class bully will wade in and kick both of their asses.
10 years ago at 8:24 am“…frankly I didn’t even know who it was at first because he isn’t relevant in our political world,” Yob said. “He literally physically assaulted me by punching me in the face. The state police are looking for him. I have it on video, from multiple angles.”
