Jeb Bush To Psych Majors: Have Fun Working At Chick-Fil-A

Jeb Bush doesn’t think much of your college degree, liberal arts students.
At a campaign event on Saturday morning, Bush poked a little fun at students who have chosen to study psychology during their four years in college. Psychology, mind you, is the most popular major in the United States.
From The Washington Examiner:
“Universities ought to have skin in the game,” the former Florida governor said at a South Carolina town hall with Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Trey Gowdy. “When a student shows up, they ought to say ‘Hey, that psych major deal, that philosophy major thing, that’s great, it’s important to have liberal arts … but realize, you’re going to be working a Chick-fil-A.'”
Gowdy got in on the ribbing, invoking his son’s situation.
“Governor, I am living what you just said. We have a son … a philosophy major … if any of you are going through the drive-through at Chick-fil-A, you can say hello to him,” Gowdy remarked, to raucous audience laughter. “Not shockingly, he is in law school.”
“The number one degree program for students in this country … is psychology,” Bush said. “I don’t think we should dictate majors. But I just don’t think people are getting jobs as psych majors. We have huge shortages of electricians, welders, plumbers, information technologists, teachers.”
As a proud degree-holder in Political Science, I have no arguments here. Should I have picked a degree with better job prospects after graduation? No doubt. You know what people who study government get to do after college? Teach government. By the way, our neighborhood plumber lives the fucking life. He charges like $200 an hour and has a lake house in East Texas. Dude has his masters from the College of Hard Knocks.
Working at Chick-fil-A ain’t half bad, either — if you get to snack on free chicken all day. I’d be down to manage a CFA for the rest of my life, as long as it isn’t a God-awful Chick-fil-A Express.

11 years ago at 10:26 amI hate liberal arts students as much as the next guy, but without psych majors who’s going to provide my future wife’s therapy?
11 years ago at 10:27 amMost of the psychology majors I know have no plans of going to graduate school. All they do is smoke weed and talk about how insightful they are.
11 years ago at 10:46 amAnd talk about how an acid trip really changed their life for the better
11 years ago at 10:59 amYea Psych majors are a pain in the ass they think they can read everyone and know better than people.

11 years ago at 10:38 amThe Bush dynasty hasn’t always been great for the GOP–we should do better–so I’m glad this RINO advocate for open borders won’t become the next president.
11 years ago at 10:42 amBush is an alright guy, won’t vote for him, but Trey Gowdy is an awesome guy. He the real MVP. #HillaryforPrison2016
11 years ago at 10:51 amHe needs to do something about his hair though.. I guess people are too scared to tell him
11 years ago at 1:13 pmAs someone from SC, Trey Gowdy is one of the least intelligent politicians out there, and gives a bad name to our state.

11 years ago at 11:44 amI am sure you already have extensive dick sucking experience based on the fact that you still have a job that you are clearly unqualified for.
11 years ago at 12:39 pmHalf the things he says we have a shortage in you wouldn’t necessarily go to a traditional university to get trained in. Welders usually get trained in tech schools Jeb
11 years ago at 11:56 amHigh schools seriously need to promote trade schools, tech schools, and service opportunities more to their students as legitimate routes for continuing education. College is just not for everyone. Oddly enough, more psych majors becoming high school counselors could accomplish this.
11 years ago at 12:39 pmExactly. That’s why new grads can’t find jobs. There are too many new grads.
11 years ago at 1:25 pmPutting teaching in the same job category as welding and plumbing. TFM.
11 years ago at 12:41 pmNot as much Steve Holt hate as there usually is. I hate Mondays.
