Texas Tech Asks Fans Not To Use “Wreck ‘Em” This Weekend In Light Of Oklahoma State Tragedy
“Wreck ’em Tech!” is something that one would hear thousands of times while enjoying a fall Saturday in Lubbock, Texas. It’s their staple slogan. It’s even in the fight song: “We will hit ’em, we will wreck ’em, we will fucking kick their ass” (at least, the Texas Tech I know sings it that way). However, for one day only, no one at Jones AT&T Stadium will be mentioning the word “wreck.”
In light of the tragic accident at Oklahoma State this past weekend that left four dead, Texas Tech is planning on honoring Oklahoma State before their game with a moment of silence. The Athletics Department would also like all of the fans to refrain from saying “wreck ’em” or “wreck OSU.” Devin Ward of Lubbock’s KCBD posted to Facebook to spread the message.
Classy move by Tech.
Texas Tech is not the first Big 12 program to show their support for Oklahoma State. During Saturday’s OU-Texas Tech game, Oklahoma fans flew the Oklahoma State flag during the game.

The University of Texas showed their support by playing the alma mater of OSU, “Proud & Immortal,” from the UT bell towers.
One of my closest childhood friends, Drew Orland, is one of the University of Texas bell tower players. He contacted me today asking for music to the Oklahoma State Alma Mater, hoping to pay tribute to the victims of Saturday's incident. I'm truly humbled by his request and even more humbled that so many Universities are supporting Oklahoma State during such a tough time. Please keep all the victims in your thoughtsLoyal and True

Nice to see the collegiate community rallying around Oklahoma State following Saturday’s tragedy..

Extremely grateful to see our rivals come together and honor us in this time of darkness. God bless y’all and Go Pokes.
11 years ago at 3:28 pmA rare situation where I agree with being politically correct
11 years ago at 3:29 pmIt’s not about being PC, it’s about being empathetic and showing support
11 years ago at 3:48 pmThat’s what every liberal says about being PC. You basically just defined the words. Unfortunately, liberals have taken it to extremes by claiming extraordinary sensitivities should be treated in the same light as sensible ones. In this case, being empathetic (or politically correct) is the appropriate response.
11 years ago at 3:54 pmI understand that was a tragedy, but are we really trying to push a PC agenda into CFB?
11 years ago at 3:29 pmI’ll probably get lapped, but if someone is saying it as a joke towards the other fan base then they are just an asshat.
11 years ago at 3:30 pmThere’s a difference. This shit happened last week. When LSU (DKE?) poked fun at the Kent State massacre a few years ago there was 40 years of separation. That kind of fucked up trashed talk is acceptable in my book.
This is just about being a decent human being.
11 years ago at 4:28 pmSo in 2051 it is okay to make fun of the terrorist attacks of September 11th? Eat shit
11 years ago at 7:10 pmYou don’t do math well do you..? 40 years of separation from 9/11 would be 2041.
11 years ago at 7:37 pmI didn’t say you can make fun of anything and anything in 50 years.
11 years ago at 9:28 pmIf you use humor to cope with a tragedy then yes it is okay. I don’t go laughing in the faces of people who lost family members, but I come up with horrible jokes to myself instead of sulking about it.
11 years ago at 1:01 amAs someone who was present at accident, I thank the TT student body in advance for their sensitivity.
11 years ago at 3:39 pmVery impressed by the class of these schools
11 years ago at 4:13 pmClassy move by TT. Good to see.
11 years ago at 4:26 pmExcept for the fact they’re talking to Tech students, the singlehandedly, unarguably trashiest group of football fans in Division 1
11 years ago at 4:35 pmLol oh ok dude. Have you been to OU, TCU, UT, Baylor, A&M, Bama, Arkansas, or pretty much any other team in the SEC for that matter? GTFO with that bullshit!
11 years ago at 5:35 pmOh fuck off you pussy. Your fans are the only ones I’ve seen throw trash on the field this season. (TCU game)
11 years ago at 6:10 pmYou have obviously never been to a game before
11 years ago at 9:53 pmIt is most certainly NOT in the fight song! The actual words are: “We will hit ’em, we will wreck ’em, hit ’em wreck ’em Texas Tech”. Learn the ACTUAL words to the fight song and sing it correctly! We need to have more respect for own school to not cuss during the fight song! It’s classless and trashy! But I think it’s a great idea for us to forfeit one of our most common phrases for one game to honor those innocent lives lost!
11 years ago at 5:30 pmFuck off
11 years ago at 7:41 pmExclamation points are NF.
11 years ago at 9:01 pmPussy
11 years ago at 9:52 pmHats off TTU for just being the Class act that they have always been! The big 12 loves having its rivals! I’m a Sooner, yeah yeah.. save the comments.. lol, but I always love the fact that even our rivals come together when something tragic like this happens. One nation under god and it shows at times. Love you all! Go Pokes!, but bust their butts Raiders!
11 years ago at 7:22 pmgroovy. i prefer to reek ’em, anyway.
