Alleged Arkansas Tech Sorority Member Under Fire For Wearing Blackface To Halloween Costume Contest

One Arkansas Tech student, who is rumored to be a member of a sorority, is in hot water after donning blackface for her appearance as Lil Wayne in a fraternity Halloween costume contest.

Here is the outfit that is causing all the controversy:

Arkansas Tech has since released a statement on the incident.

From Arkansas Tech University:

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, a student organization hosted a Halloween costume contest on the Arkansas Tech University campus in Russellville. As part of the event, a Caucasian student dressed as African-American performer Lil Wayne and chose to use blackface as part of her costume.

Below is a statement from Dr. Robin E. Bowen, Arkansas Tech University president:

“I share the deep hurt felt by many that a display such as the one that took place at our university could occur in this day and time. Participation in a just and fair society requires that each of us take the feelings of others into consideration at all times so as to not be offensive to others. In this case, some of our students fell short of that standard.

“As a result, Arkansas Tech University will investigate this matter through the proper channels to ensure that appropriate corrective measures are taken. We are in the business of education, and rather than running away from this very unpleasant situation we will use it as an opportunity to reinforce our institutional commitment to diversity and inclusion. We will offer resources to all involved. We will continue teaching our students and preparing them to become effective citizens.

“To our students, I ask that you join me in making a simple and yet critical commitment. Today, tomorrow and forevermore, love your fellow man. Demonstrate consideration for his or her point of view. When you see or hear something that you know is wrong, do what is right. Our ability to create a society in which each person feels welcome and included will hinge upon a countless series of individual decisions. Make good decisions.”

Yeah, blackface is never a good idea. Ever. I could’ve told her this was going to happen.

We will provide updates to this story as they become known.

Fraternity philanthropy events don’t always go as planned.

Yet nick cannon posted a photo of himself on insta last year for an album promo going full whiteface and the media ignored it. Just another double standard in this shitty society. Pathetic how journalists will hype anything up to sell it, they would sell their integrity for Facebook shares.

To be fair, the reason why blackface is a no is because of its history in theatre/acting to make black people appear stupider, etc then white people. There’s no offensive history to a black person painting there face white.

I’m by no means all about the PC stuff and I’m sure this girl didn’t intend for her costume to bring up something bad from America’s past, but yeah. Just don’t paint your face black. It’s pretty simple

Thanks for the knowledge, never thought I’d actually learn something on this God forsaken website. I’m not even necessarily defending her actions, but all I’m really trying to say is that for the media to exploit one college aged female who probably hasn’t even had to pay her own bills yet is flat out bullying in my eyes.

No disagreement there. I’m sure she didn’t even know about the history of blackface when she made the costume.

Most people don’t know the history. The bigger question is why something that happened for a short time almost 100 years ago even matters? In reality, people had to research to find that piece of information so they could be offended. Blackface being offensive is a relatively new phenomenon

I mean, I don’t think it is. It’s been offensive for awhile now. Is white people don’t really know about the history of it because it’s not really important to us. It’s kinda like jokes about slavery…potentially funny, probably shouldn’t be made in front of black people.

Black people don’t have to research this to be offended white people do just saying..

You don’t just forget the fact that people were kidnapped and forced to be slaves. Our generation is the first in the US to have a drastic change in racial views. Emmett Till was killed in the 50’s. I’m not PC either, but half of my family is black. They are still being discriminated against everyday.

Noone was kidnapped. They were bought. The slave traders actually bought slaves from other Africans. Said slaves were mostly war prisoners and such from enemy tribes. The other conquering africans mostly just thought they might as well make a profit out of them instead of just straight off killing them(i mean the arabs had a booming slave trade thing going on,so they probably felt inspired idk…anyway, what’s the name of that Nigerian king who implored Queen Victoria to stop the anti-slavery campaign lest his country suffer fiscally?)P.S. fifty bucks says Saber and Key is a ranging closet democrat. The washed-out wimp vibes you give off are atrocious sweetheart.

I’m not sure how pointing out the history of blackface and why it would be offensive to black people makes me a “raging closet democrat,” but you are a woman and I typically don’t understand where the rationale for anything women say comes from.

        PS Show us your tits.

Sweetheart, you’re effectively endorsing the idea that “taking offence™” is legitimate grounds to demand that certain things be prohibited, lest said things cause said “offense”. Must I really go further? Poor little darling i think you may be slightly confused. You’ve a hard-on for “social justice™” AND can’t understand female rationale? Tsk tsk it must be lonely in that closet of yours.

P.S. I totally would because i hate my dad. But i totally shan’t because i’m not ugly or poor enough to crave the attention of quasi-hermaphrodites.

We don’t want this pc bullshit where everyone is offended by dumb shit right? Posting something that is absolutely a racist comment is counterproductive, and it wasn’t even funny. That showcases a serious lack of intelligence. Also, you’re a pussy and I’ve done more manly shit in my sleep than you’ve done in your entire life.

I feel if someone were to paint their face white, their peers would view it as groundbreaking, and inspirational. That is all.

Im black, and I have to say I think people being offended by blackface is pretty stupid if it’s for something like this. Obviously if it’s used in a derogatory way, that can probably be conceived as offensive. But regardless, people should probably start just not using blackface, brown face, whiteface or anything like that because the media will eat up your story and shit on your life. Different battles to fight in the world.

You wanna know why so many people are offended or “hurt” in this used tampons case? It’s a great way to get attention without having to possess any sort of skills.

Black SJWs(on colorblind movements to see past race): Stop pretending race doesn’t exist! We have darker skin tones and deserve to be recognized as having darker skin tones.
Black SJWs (on people of other culture recognizing that they have darker skin tones): Stop abusing our skin color and culture you meanie heads.

Funny that the guy reporting on this only “identifies” as black. Shaun King is actually white.
