Miami Beat Duke After A Controversial Call By The Ref, Rubs It In With New Hype Video

The Miami Hurricanes should’ve never beat the Duke Blue Devils on Oct. 31. The NCAA knows it, the ACC knows it, Duke knows it, and Miami knows it. Miami doesn’t give a shit though.

A series of officiating errors led to the Hurricanes last-second, miracle kickoff return for a touchdown that fateful Saturday. The ACC later suspended the officials in charge of the game due to their awfulness, but the win for Miami remains intact.

On Thursday, the Hurricanes released an epic hype video from the game. It’s a tearjerker, talking about how hard work, dedication, and a never-give-up attitude led to the win. Ya know, the win that shouldn’t have happened.

I’m not sure if it’s a lack of selective editing or just the realization that people wouldn’t care, but the university-released video went with the clearest shot of the questionable knee-down no call (6:44) and a nice shot of the block in the back no call (6:57). It’s like they’re telling the world “Hey, we know we won off a bullshit call, but guess what? Suck our dicks.” They’re just rubbing it in.

Miami has blatantly ignored the fact the touchdown should’ve been called back, mainly because the Hurricanes still officially have a win in that column.

They’ve also decided to sell t-shirts to commemorate the night:

We’ve reached out to the university for comment. Here’s their response:

Everyone hates Miami. Duke had a controversial touchdown and got questionable pass interference calls in their favor, but that doesn’t matter.

also you should never leave a game up to the officials or let one play determine a whole game

Mike and Mike were talking about this the day after. Not Mike Golic, but the other one (I forget his name) said something relatively true. That last play of the game was absolutely reversible. Although I hate to say to alter the game after it is over is wrong. In this case it should’ve been allowed. The second his knee touched the ground the game is over and duke should’ve won. There’s no “maybe this coulda happened or this would’ve”. No, the game is over. The ACC should’ve stepped up, said they fucked up and overturned the game win to duke.

Doesn’t matter one play doesn’t make a game. And let’s be honest that was some of the shittiest blocking by duke. It never should’ve gotten that far in the first place so blame duke.

That would set a horrible precedent and teams everywhere would find that one play the refs screwed up and try to appeal every loss

No, it wouldn’t set a horrible precedent. It was literally the last play of the game, and calling the player down or correctly calling a penalty would have ended the game right then and there. Other teams would only be able to appeal similar situations, and those would be extremely rare instances anyway. If there were even a couple seconds left, it wouldn’t be appealable.

The ACC also apologized to UM for the blown pass interference calls on Duke’s last drive. And Duke was a ranked team playing at home against a bad team’s backup quarterback. They can quit their bitching now

Still don’t get the name Hurricanes. How did that meeting go? “Hey what’s the most devastating thing that consistently happens to our city? Hurricanes? Let’s be that.”

It’s in memory of the 1926 Miami Hurricane, which basically leveled all of South Florida just before the U opened.

It was but classes weren’t held until Fall of 1926. Founding and opening are not the same thing, General.

I just dropped in to say that I didn’t click on SteveHolt’s Elmo article.

Did anyone else notice that the play was dramatized in slow-mo, but the “knee down” portion of the play was not and even appeared to be sped up?
