Used Fournette Jersey Sells For $101K In Auction, All Proceeds Go To SC Flood Victims
When flooding made it impossible to hold the game between USC and LSU at South Carolina as planned, the Tigers did everything in their power to make up for the Gamecock’s lack of home field advantage. They replaced the LSU flag with a USC flag, made tickets free to USC students, donated all proceeds from the game to the reeling state, and even taught their band the Carolina fight song. It was a class act all around that demonstrated the SEC is more like one big team made up of a bunch of smaller teams than it is a division.
The good will kept on rolling yesterday when the jersey Leonard Fournette wore during the game was sold during an online auction for a whopping $101,000 – every cent of which will go to flood relief efforts in South Carolina. Fournette originally announced the idea in his postgame interview.
The bidding spiked out of nowhere yesterday morning, too, which prompted LSU to extend the auction.
From WBRZ:
The bidding had reached $40,000 earlier Monday morning. As the auction approached the 11 a.m. cutoff the bidding picked up quickly, spiking above $70,000 around the deadline. Because bids were still coming in LSU extended the auction with each bid, ending at a final total of $101,000.
LSU athletics communication director Michael Bonnette said the winner was a wealthy LSU alumni who was “determined” to have the top bid, even if the bidding reached seven digits.
Thanks to Fournette, LSU, and the nameless hero who just dished out six figures to the people of Carolina..

10 years ago at 9:58 amAnd this great act of kindness will be forgotten because of the self entitled Mizzou students. Here is someone that has faced actual adversity and instead of feeling sorry for himself he thinks of others and helps out a community in a big way. This kid is a class act and should be a role model for all Student-Athletes.
10 years ago at 9:58 amThe striking difference is that this dude wakes up every morning to bust his ass to get farther in life. Those fucks at Mizzou think they should be handed the world because someone offended them.
10 years ago at 10:44 amHa I might have seen this one coming. NCAA is looking into if his family violated the rules from selling it. Why can’t they just let this one happen?
10 years ago at 1:38 pmWhat a stud. A great football player, and an even better person. Give him the Heisman.
10 years ago at 10:03 amYou don’t get the Heisman rushing for 31 yards. Hats off to his gesture though.
10 years ago at 4:12 pmOne game also doesn’t define a Heisman. I’m a TAMU fan but Fournette deserves it.
