This College Football Playoff Conspiracy Theory Is Too Good To Not Be True

If the college football playoff rankings have confused you up to now — and they haven’t made a lot of sense so you all should fall under this category — a new conspiracy theory from Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt could shed some light on the bias of the committee.

As a guest on Colin Cowherd’s radio show yesterday, Klatt, a former superstar quarterback at Colorado, explained why he thinks the committee is ranking teams the way it has, so far. Without giving away anything, I’ll say this: It makes almost too much sense.

The numbers don’t lie, folks. You can harp on strength of schedule all you want, but there is no reason that Baylor, who has clearly passed the eye test, isn’t looked upon more favorably than Ohio State — when neither school has played anyone particularly significant up to this point in the season. And that takes a lot out of me to say, because I can’t stand Baylor.

How can it be that the disparity in the AP polls and the CFB rankings so blatantly favor schools from one part of the country over the other?

The answer is simple: Ratings.

College football fans love old school football conferences like the SEC, the ACC and the Big Ten. They couldn’t care less about Oklahoma State or Baylor or Utah. I’ll tell you what, if you dropped “State” from OSU and replaced Baylor with Texas, we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now — I guarantee that.

This isn’t all that much of a surprise, though. The CFB Playoff committee was always going to be corrupt, just like the BCS. This is no different. You just get an extra game.

I guess what I am really saying is this: Expand the playoff to eight teams or don’t call it a playoff.

Baylor shouldn’t be placed in front of Ohio State for the simple fact that OSU won the championship last year. And that’s coming from a Big 12 fan. Iowa on the other hand hasn’t played anyone and has barely won a few of their games. Why they are 5th is beyond me. Colin Cowherd has one of the most interesting sports talk shows on television.

Last time I checked, Baylor has pretty much blown everyone out of the water except K-State.

Baylor has not played a single team with a winning record. Not a single one – and two were FCS teams. I’d take OU this weekend if I were a betting man.

BU’s resume isnt great no question but you would be stupid as hell to take OU straight up

Straight up? So I wouldn’t be “stupid as hell” if I took OU against the spread? The spread is currently at -2.5, and by College Football standards, that’s basically zero. They only reason they even got that much is because it’s a home game for Baylor. How about this: 35-27 Oklahoma.

Except what you do last year does still have an impact. It’s called preseason rankings, and they determine where you start the season at. A team starting at the top will have the benefit of the doubt, and losses won’t effect these team as much as losses will effect teams that don’t start out in the preseason top 25. Ohio State won the CFP last year and are undefeated this year. They should be in the top 4 no matter what, but it really doesn’t matter because there are still so many games left to be played. It’s stupid to get worked up now when the hardest part of every teams schedule is coming up.

The CFP rankings don’t include a preseason ranking. The first rankings came out last week. They’re suppose to be only based off what has been done this season

While I agree that Iowa is an irrelevant team, they have looked good enough against two currently ranked teams that they deserve to be up in the rankings.

I just think an undefeated Oklahoma State and Baylor should be ahead of Iowa. I bet if Vegas put odds on it, both those teams would have an advantage over that Iowa team.

OkSt would be a TD favorite over Iowa. Iowa and Wisconsin run very similar(boring af) offenses and Iowa beat Barry Alvarez’ Badgers at Wisconsin 10-6 earlier this year when Wisconsin was ranked. They absolutely shut down the Badger offense all game. That memory is ingrained in Alvarez’ mind and it’s a fucking joke. If Iowa runs the table and scrapes out a win vs. Ohio St or Michigan st, guarantee the committee puts them in over an undefeated Baylor or OkSt.

Barry Alvarez hasn’t been head coach at Wisconsin since they hired Bielema, minus the few bowl games he’s coached. Wisconsin’s coach is Paul Chryst if you’re gonna talk shit on a team at least have enough knowledge of them to know the head coach.

I’m aware he isn’t the coach, but he’s a Wisconsin coaching legend and a very vocal member of the playoff committee. He clearly has a Wisconsin/Big 10 bias.

Understood, the “Barry Alvarez’s Badgers” line confused me. Either way it really doesn’t matter right now. If Iowa loses, they are out. The only way they get in is if they go undefeated, then win the BIG. It would be pretty hard to keep out an undefeated P5 team.

Iowa technically has a better resume than Ohio State at the moment so there’s that. Iowa has 2 wins over OOC P5 teams, 2 wins over teams in the CFP top 25, and 4 wins over teams with winning records. For reference, Ohio State has 1-0-3, Alabama has 1-2-6, Clemson has 1(ND)-2-5, Baylor has 0-0-0, OK State has 0-1-2.

The argument that pro-style offenses are profiting in the rankings is wrong. Utah and Stanford both have pro-styles and are beating all the new-age stuff in the Pac-12, so shouldn’t they be higher under what they were talking about?

I enjoyed the conspiracy theory that Steve’s mom was a cum guzzling whore.

They’re going to eventually expand it to 8 teams but needed to start somewhere. Do your research you dickbag.
