LSU Freshman Misinterprets Bar Stamp As Racial Slur, Causes Uproar Over A Decade Old Tradition
Eggshells are everywhere. As we tiptoe through the minefield that has become the reality for far too many campuses across the nation, we seem to consistently find ourselves battling issues that otherwise wouldn’t have arisen had it not been for the climate emasculating an increasing number of universities by the day. The arrival of the storm to the deep south has seemingly been unavoidable since its creation. We got close, yesterday, but crisis was averted. Thank God.
As social media lit up yesterday regarding a racial slur appearing on the hand of a black LSU student, the world was reminded of a valuable lesson – think before you speak. Ask a few questions and retrieve a fact or two before you watch the world burn. The following tweet – which was later deleted – was sent out yesterday and almost ignited a firestorm before the facts prevailed.
According to LSU students, the term “Reggin” is slang for partying at Reggie’s bar and has been around for over a decade. This report was later confirmed by the bar employees. Now, to even seen that slur, you are required to look at the stamp upside down AND read it backwards. Stretching it a bit? Most likely.
From LSU Reveille:
A manager at Reggie’s, who refused to give his name, says that the stamp comes from when people use to to say that they were going “Reggin” when they went out to Reggie’s.
He explains that they have used the Reggin stamp once a week for 10 years, and that the racial aspect of the stamp was unintentional.
The bar manager was then asked if he would change the stamp after yesterday’s incident, and with conviction rarely seen in the aftermath of these social media crusades, stood up for his bar and its stamp.
When asked if he would change the stamp, he says that he hasn’t changed anything for 15 years and is not going to change it now.
Can’t we all just enjoy college and blackout together? This is getting old..
