Clemson Student’s Body Found Behind Football Stadium On Campus

Some sad news out of South Carolina this morning.
The body of Michael Joseph Allen, an 18-year-old Georgia native, was found behind Clemson Memorial Stadium on Tuesday. Authorities are investigating what happened, but don’t suspect foul play at this time.
From Fox Carolina:
The student has been identified as Michael Joseph Allen of Dunwoody, Georgia.
The 18-year-old freshman was a business major, according to a statement from Clemson University.l
Pickens County Deputy Coroner Gary Duncan said investigators could not immediately say how the male student fell behind the football stadium stands.
Authorities say foul play is not suspected in Allen’s death.
“There is no threat to the campus,” Clemson University Police Chief Eric Hendricks said in a statement.
The S.C. Law Enforcement Division was notified by Clemson University Police shortly after 8:30 Tuesday of the discovery of a body at Clemson University’s football stadium.
Under state law, SLED conducts investigations involving a death on a college or university campus in South Carolina.
At this time, foul play is not believed to be involved in the death.
SLED is continuing its investigation.
“Our hearts go out to the Allen family, friends and his fellow classmates. A death is always hard, for it impacts us all, but even more difficult at this time of year. We send our thoughts and prayers out for the loss of this member of our Clemson family,” Almeda Jacks, Clemson’s vice president for Student Affairs, said in a statement.
As many of you recall, Clemson is not immune to tragedy. Last year, the body of Tucker Hipps, a Clemson freshman, was found in Lake Hartwell — right next to campus. The resulting investigation closed a campus fraternity for five years.
It’s always tough to see young people lose their lives in college. When I was in school, I think I saw 5-10 people I knew pass away for various reasons — none health related. It’s devastating to see the family of someone you knew growing up bury their child — especially if their death was avoidable. By far, one of the worst things I can imagine.
Keep the Allen family in your thoughts and prayers this week..
